My girlfriend and I are both in our early 40s. We are not married and the only children we have are two boys that I have from a previous marriage. They live with their mother so we're basically a couple with free time on the weekends when my boys are not visiting. We've realized that we have one little problem...we really don't have any friends who we can just hang out with, go have a beer with, or go to a ball game....not even anything sexual, just friends to hang out with who share mutual interest (would be preferable). Do any of you have suggestions where we can meet people. It seems that the biggest roadblock is that most in our demographic are married with kids and would have little in common with us. Thanks in advance!

I have two things to say that might be of interest to you...

First, why stick to a hard demographic? Two of Ranger's and my closest friends are old enough to be our parents. Still, they're the most fun loving people we know and they always appreciate having Ranger around to tend the bar.

Second, are there yahoo or MSN groups in your area? Maybe for fans of the home team? Joining a group like that or searching out the alumni association if it's a college game may sometimes yield positive results. I believe the Seattle area has a great network of tribes, as well.

I'm not sure what it is about some people that makes it easy for them to make friends, but I'm not really one of those people. Ranger is. I lucked out and get friends by proxy usually with him, despite the fact that you'd think it was the other way around with his sometimes abrasive manner.
