I have dry skin as do many others, The question is...

What do you use?

After many diferent brands I have resorted to the old standbuy of baby oil. For the first time in years, my skin is soft but oily for the first couple of hours.

Any other opinions from those out there with dry skin.

I use a product called "Q V lotion"

Not sure if it's avilable up there, bit I get it from the local phamacy.

Not only is it a great skin lotion, but it can also be used as a lubricant.

It turns into the slippriest thing known to man when saliva is added, and does not leave that oily residue.

Ooh! I love this question! I'm all about this kind of stuff. Smiler I use Neutrogena Body Oil after I turn the shower off and my skin is still wet, then I towel it off with the water. Then I put lotion on top of that. Right now I'm using this Victoria's Secret Grapefruit stuff. But I think the most effective kind, for me, has been Curel, Ultra Healing. Oh, or if you'd like a little color then the Jergen's Natural Glow is really nice too.

In the past, I have used Lubriderm but with the winter dry skin season well entrenched I have started going with the the baby oil fortified with aloe.

Yogurt is great for moisturizing...just slap some on, leave to soak for a while and wipe off with cotton wool or a cotton face cloth or something...just not water cause that will dry your skin out all over again. Yea you'll look funny wandering around with yogurt all over you but it'll be worth it. Alternatively try this site for some moisturiser "recipes" or google natural mosituriser or homemade face masks

I love Bath and Body Works True Blue Spa "Lay it on Thick" cream. It's really thick and absorbs well, and really helps with dry, post-shaving legs. The down side is that I feel a little greasy for a bit after. I also like St. Ives H20 gel-cream, it absorbs quickly and doesn't leave you feeling greasy after. It moisturizes well too!

Oh, and try a humidifier in the bedroom while you sleep. It keeps the moisture content in the air higher, so you don't dry out as much. Helps with sleeping too, as B and I were both itchy from dry skin, and had dry throats in the morning. Definitely helped with this. This is our first house with forced-air heat, and this didn't happen to us in other homes we've lived in. Just a thought.

Black Opal Cocoa Butter Extreme. It is found mostly in the ethnic areas of drug stores and mass merchandisers but I love it. It smells like a tropical vacation in a tube but nongreasy. The other thing I like is Vasoline Intensive Care WaterProof lotion; it is in a light blue and navy blue bottle. They may be remarketing it under a new name but it is awesome as well. It will last through a couple of hand washings and showers not feel greasy.

Body Shop Shea Body Butter - wonderful stuff... my skin is dry as dry and this really works. I guess any 'good' body butter would work, I like that one 'cause of the lack of chemicals.

I love nice scented lotions, such as anything from L'Occitane! But to get the job done = Curel. I've tried 'em all over the years and keep coming back to Curel.

I learned this tip from my dentist's office: best hand cream = Glove'n Care. I don't think you can buy it in a drugstore but only through medical suppliers. It's supposed to help dry hands caused by latex. Really good stuff...although I still use my L'Occitane Shea Butter hand cream when I want to smell nice (also excellent for hands).

Cheers!

Cecily,
It was a good thing you said that but I hope you cannot read my mind. What does Zim's crack creme bring to mind? I have not used it but I used to "crack up" everytime I use to see it on TV. If you think I am kidding, type in crack creme at your favorite search.
Back to the subject, I use a moisturizing body wash in the winter. We have gas heat and that is the only reason I can think of. During the summer I have no problem with dry skin. I normally have oily skin and tan well.
I feel your scratching need,
Chow

I'll second the Body Shop thing, although I prefer the Mango butter or the Grapeseed body butter they have.

Also, I'm a sucker for homemade beeswax "lotions" - although my recipe is for lip balm, I've made it and put it into larger tins for really dry, cracked skin. Mostly for heels and elbows, but I suppose if you were having severe problems elsewhere it could be used. I found the recipe HERE but I've linked to the menu because there's a TON of kickass skincare recipes that you can make generally with stuff from the grocery store and one or two small things from a specialty store like Mountain Rose Herbs.

Oops... I've just given away one of my hobbies - home spa stuff.

Body: Food grade coconut oil. In the health foods section.

Put it on after shower and have a dark colored fluffy bathrobe ready to lounge around in.

I haven't figured out how to moisturize my face well, or the backs of my hands.

Drinking lots of water or tea.

Just going through some old threads to avoid opening a new one on another subject. . .

Tis the season for moisturization fa la la la la....
my hands crack up like crazy to and have discovered Jamieson ProVitamina E is great EVERYWHERE! And no greasiness--you feel it's there but not greasy or slicky just soft! It's in a tub and is more pricy than say a bottle of Jergons but it does work so well.
