had to have our black lab put down yesterday. Granger was 10, and loved to play ball. a shadow most everywhere i went. he quit eating wednesday, and by yesterday morning had lost use of his hind quarters. the vet assured us it was a return of cancer....he went fast, and will be missed.

The loss of any pet is devastating. Ajay, I am so sorry for you and your wife. We've had siamese cats since 1980 and in that time have had to see several of the put to sleep -it always hurts! But the worst was when one of our 8 month old kittens went missing, to this day we don't know what hapened to her and there is still the odd occassion when I dream about her coming home - even though I know it is not going to happen.

That is so sad indeed. All the silence and emptiness they leave behind. I too lost a furry friend friend this year, a horse, not exactly a pet, and he wasn´t mine either, but.. Hugs, K |

I'm so sorry for your loss. Losing a pet is always difficult, especially one who has been a companion for an entire decade. I cried over my goldfish who only lasted three months! Labradors are beautiful animals and faithful friends, and it's always heartbreaking to see such a majestic dog sick and hurting. I have no doubt that he's at peace now, free of the pain he'd had before. He was lucky to have such a wonderful owner.

Lucky Husband of Eddy |
I swear, one of the most traumatic moments of my life was having to put down a family cat after its 22 year life had come to its end. My mom, who was by then deceased, found it in a trash can abandoned (the rest of the litter was dead) and nursed it back to health. We were there for the whole injection procedure and broke down as they administered the drugs to put her out. I have two older cats now that I'm not looking forward to seeing their demise, either.

I feel for you, ajay. It's so hard to put a pet to sleep. Like Freddy, my parents have a couple of older cats that I grew up with, and I know I'll hate getting that phone call, saying they had to put them to sleep.
My husband had a cat that was really attached to him. The cat would lay on his stomach as he read, follow him around, and sleep on his bed. B was his "person", which we consider to be a real honor as cats are so independent. Unfortunately, B wasn't home when this poor kitty was hit by a car, so he never had a chance to say goodbye. At least when you put a pet to sleep, you get to say goodbye. *~When I'm good, I'm very good. But when I'm bad I'm better. -Mae West~* |
