Wow...B and I saw The Dark Knight tonight as well. It lived up to expectations. Heath Ledger stole the show. One small complaint: it did get a little draggy toward the end, but otherwise it joined Iron Man and Wall-E as one of the best movies this summer Smiler

We just got back from seeing it tonight and agree wholeheartedly. Plus, I thought the ending was a bit illogical and confusing. However, Aaron Ekhart did a great job as Harvey Dent - overshadowed by Heath Ledger - and I loved the kidnapping Hong Kong sequence. Way cool.

One observation, though; I think the decision to have the Joker transcend from his roots as criminal into anarchist was genius. Taking away standard "motives," like stealing made him into something so much more menacing. I do have a question for Phoenix and anyone else who's seen it (spoiler alert!); I felt the Joker probably had each detonator rigged to blow up their OWN ferry, not the opposite, so the game would've ended up with the wrong outcome. Since he kept lying throughout the movie (in other words, joking), it would've made sense to me. What do you think?

I'll agree with you, Freddy- It would have been fitting to the Joker's personae.

Loved the movie- LOVED it. You will get no arguments from me if Ledger wins that Oscar.

BTW: IMDB currently has The Dark Knight as the #1 rated movie of all time.

That's what we thought was going to happen, and were surprised when nobody pushed the buttons. I'm glad we weren't the only ones who thought about that Smiler

PLUS, no matter which button blew up which boat, he would've blown them both up, anyway, right? If I recall correctly, the Joker had only one detonator.

I'm actually more blown away now that I've slept on it. The cinematography should definitely win an Oscar. The Imax panoramic shots over the city - especially that shot of Batman on top of the Sears tower - were exquisite and haunting. I may have to go see it again on an Imax screen just to see how it looks in its true venue.

I personally enjoyed the 'popping out of nowhere' feel that Joker had whenever something bad was going to occur. You normally get figure out if it will through the music but this gave it the edge that noone really knew was coming. And each time mind you.

There were a bunch of 'geeks'... or 'nerds' behind Jay and I when we went to go and see it. They had made the comment that Jack Nicholson while playing the Joker never actually played Joker- he played Jack which happened to be portraying the character Joker. Jay and i agreed with the same idea of Health playing Health who happened to be portraying Joker. Interesting thought process if you ask me..

No really big releases this weekend, probably good because Dark Knight is probably going to be #1 again.

Anyone going to see Step Brothers? We're not really sure if we'll go see it; we're getting kind of tired of Will Ferrell's "man-boy" routine, but it's getting decent (although mixed) reviews.

I can almost guarantee that I'm not going to go and see the Will Ferrell movie- his humour and my taste of humour don't see eye to eye at all.

While we laughed our asses off at "Talledega Nights" and "Blades of Glory," I think we're going to pass on this latest. We didn't see the basketball one he did, either, though there's an outside chance we'll rent it. I doubt we'll even bother to rent this latest one (and we're huge fans of John C. Reilly). We've also passed on "Journey to the Center of the Earth." We're mildly interested in the remake of "Day the Earth Stood Still," with Keanu Reaves that's coming out in a month or so. Nothing else is really exciting us at this point.

OK, I'm replying to a few posts back...

I thought all three detonators had been made to blow up both boats, so that no matter who pushed the button, they would both explode. Either that, or they wouldn't blow up at all, just set off some fireworks above the boats to make everyone scream, about like the old fashioned joke guns that look real but have the little white flags that say "bang" inside them.

Kinky is using a feather. Twisted is a lot more fun.

As I recall- his had the ability to blow up both, but each boat's only able to blow up each other. If the convicts had pressed theirs, the 'good' people's boat would have gone kapow.... and visa versa. This is how i recall it at least.

If you like Ron Livingson (Office Space, Band of Brothers) I recommend "Music Within." Based on a true story of the guy that helped get the Americans with Disabilities Act passed. We really enjoyed it. On DVD.

Also Thumbs-Up for the comedy "Death at a Funeral." On DVD.
