“Autumn is a second spring where every leaf is a flower” – Albert Camus

It was a cold and rainy Saturday. I was driving home when I got a craving. I wanted a grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup. It was a favorite from childhood. My wife was not thrilled but eventually decided it was a good idea and joined me. She even dipped her sandwich in the soup as we did when were children.

So -- What's your comfort foods -- What foods take you back to simpler times. Is it roast turkey that reminds you of Christmas at Grand Ma's, the Meatloaf mom lovingly crafted, or maybe the haggis, neeps, and tatties made by your Uncle Angus for the Burns Supper.

What ever it is, curious minds want to know.

Yep, I'm with you on the grilled cheese/tomato soup combo. Nothing like it on a rainy day! Only one thing to add: goldfish crackers!

I love a good roast chicken with sausage stuffing. And mashed potatoes! Yum... Smiler

And let me add...anything with gravy!

New England (creamy) clam chowder (sorry, "chowdah") *drool* Not something easily found in the South, unfortunately.
Warm brownies.
Underbaked chocolate chip cookes...okay, hell with it..just the Pillsbury dough is fine with me!
Friendly's Turkey Club Supermelt
Dunkin Donuts Iced Latte (caramel flavored)
Okay, anything from Dunkin Donuts....
Chocolate cake with chocolate frosting
Cookie dough ice cream (Edy's or Dryer's Loaded)
Edy's or Dryer's Loaded Chocolate Peanutbutter ice cream
Cheesecake Factory's Chocolate Raspberry Truffle Cheesecake
A Cape Codder (Cranberry juice and Grey Goose with a lime twist...YUM!!!)
Chocolate martini
Drake's cakes, particularly Ring Dings
Hostess Cupcakes (LOVE that little swirl on top!)
New York style pizza, a nice thin flexible crust with cheese, or any number of yummy toppings not including anchovies!
Sweet potatos...either mashed with all the sweet stuff, or sweet potato fries
Pumpkin pie
ANY great sandwich with so much meat you can barely eat it all, or a classic ruben
Eggplant parm, chicken parm, veal parm
Spaghetti and meatballs

I like a grilled cheese made with swiss cheese.

A good bowl of chili is also a good comfort food on a cold or damp day.

Mmmm, mashed taters (sometimes with some A1 sauce on top... don't ask Wink I'm kinda weird like that!). I like me some shrimp dip with Wheat Thins, too. Ooh and tortilla chips dipped in pork and beans....

DH tried to break his foot on the back of my truck today. Luckily he got off with just a potential sprained ligament. (Good, considering the popping sound I heard Smiler) So he wanted to go to dinner and get some "Comfort food". He was craving... mashed taters. Found him some of those and pot roast. Real comfort food.

Since we're making lists, I have a couple more to add:

Lindt Chocolate Truffles - Hazelnut are the best, but I could eat them all

Amaretto DiSarona on the rocks

Cosi's Bacon Cheddar Turkey Melt

A freshly baked, warm soft pretzel

A warm brownie topped with oreo cookie icecream and hot fudge sauce and just to be healthy I'll include a banana with it too

Godiva Chocolate

Did I forget to include chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate?

No Dud here- this is a classic comfort food and damn good! Fried in Bacon Grease with thick gravy! Comforting yes -- not exactly cardio-friendly.
