As a huge comic book fan I have to say my mouth is watering for X-3.

I have 21 long boxes of comcs, over 50 statues, original artwork a comic book rack in my living room and ONE VERY UNDERSTANDING WIFE!

I have been reading X-Men comics since 1973 at age 3. As soon as I gave up my baby books I had a copy of X-Men or Spiderman in my grubby little hands.

My first crush was Storm from the comic books and Halle Berry.....OMG soooooo yummy!

So I don't mind when my wife is panting over Wolverine/Hugh Jackman cuz I got my Storm and Anna Paquin as Rogue.

Hugh Jackman - Holy Hanna that man is the total yum. I am not one to drool over movie stars. Most of em I couldn't give a rat's petootie over.

But Hugh Jackman is probably the best eye candy in all of Hollywood right now.

Can't wait to see Kelsey Grammer as the Beast, too! I got to work with him once - I'm in advertising and we signed him as our spokesperson for one of our clients. He's a genuinely NICE guy. Most big name actors have that "you're so lucky to be working with me" attitude. He was just totally down to earth.

Hooray for a break in packing on Friday!

Saw this with the New Guy on Saturday. I liked it a lot--total good time. That said, it is my least favorite of the 3. It wasn't nearly as well written as the others, but still a lot of fun!! I freakin' love the X-Men! (and Hugh Jackman is always a pleasure to look at--especially as gruff, shirtless Wolverine)

Loved the movie, Dark Phoenix... sooooooooooo hot... Famke Jensenn is a friggen babe, especially as Jean Grey. Anywho... be on the look out for the Wolverine movie, the Magneto movie AND... yes true believers... X-Men 4. Possible story arcs for it include but are not limited to, Extinction Agenda, Mutant Massacre, Age of Apocalypse, Days of Future Past and... my personal favorite... Inferno!

My source will neither confirm nor deny anything except there WILL be an X-4.

I was once a comic book fanatic myself...

That is, until my brother took my whole collection of Spiderman #'s 1-120 (including the Amazing Fantasy #15 issue in which he first appeared) and sold it for $100.00 worth of crack. No, really, true story. A collection probably worth in the hundreds of thousands of dollars today gone - for some crack. I was never an X-men collector, instead opting for Silver Surfer, Batman, and Fantastic Four.

Anywho, I fell in love with Gwen Stacy, who was Spiderman's girlfriend from issues #31 through her tragic death at the hands - or shall I say the flyer - of the Green Goblin in issue #120. In that fateful issue, the Goblin knocks her unconscious from the Brooklyn-inspired Bridge and Spiderman catches her with his web before she hits the water, snapping her neck. Subsequently, an enraged Spiderman beats the Goblin senseless before dodging his incoming flyer in the scene which inspired Dafoe's death in the first Spiderman movie. Gwen reappeared later as a clone created by the Jackal, though she didn't remember Peter Parker and their rekindled romance fizzled shortly afterward. An interesting note is that the Punisher came on the scene to hunt down Spiderman for Gwen's murder.

Of course, Gwen's death meant the door opened for Mary Jane, who I never found stoke-worthy, and the rest is history.

As much as I dig redheads... Gwen was one of the hottest. Now... Selina Kyle... Can't go wrong with Catwoman. Loved the "Hush" Storyline. Batman tells Selina who he really is... they start a relationship. Only to have it fizzle out. So much sexual tension between the two.

Now my all time favorite Comic Book hottie? Madeline Pryor... the Jean Grey clone who became the Goblin Queen during the Inferno storyline. She was everything Jean wasn't. Had the whole sultry redhead thing going.

Freddy, I weep for your loss. Seriously. Actual tears from my eyes.

The loss of your Superman issues for something like that is so painful to me.
I hope your brother has grown beyond this horrid problem.

I never grew up on comics, but I understand their value - not only monetary, but the sentimental attachment. (For me, it's the Oz books by Baum, not comics. No monetary value. ONly sentimental.) Hubby once sold some of his Xmen, and at the time (we weren't married yet) I repeatedly told him I didn't think it was a good idea. He did it anyway. And regretted it later.

Sorry. Spiderman.
I thought Spiderman in my head, yet typed Superman. Don't know why...

Freddy I was horrified to read about what happened to your collection.

I understand that you will probably never get them back, but marvel has released a series of Black and white softbacks that cover most of those issues. For about 100 bux you could get the stories, and I know that in no way replaces what you lost, but it might bring back a fond memory or two.
e

Seriously folks it takes hundreds if not thousands of hours and thouands upon thousands of dollar to track down a collection like that.

For many of us certain comic books are as close as friends.

My first GF in college died in a car accident. She happeend to look like one of the comic book characters in X-Men who happened to loose her BF in a tragic way. The story was called Days of Future Past and that comic book kept me sane. Every time I felt like I was totally alone I read that book. I read X-Men 137 where Scott looses Jean in her great sacrifice and i used his example to carry on.

Collecting comics is like few hobbies as the object is so interactive, it isnt just a figurine that sits on a shelf, the characters live and breathe and grow with you.

I'm pretty philosophical about it, actually. My brother may not be doing crack anymore, but he's just supplanted it with other things, like pot, alcohol, Prozak, and whatever else. Don't really know much as we haven't spoken in almost 8 years - one of those "final straw" moments I'll amuse you all with one day when I have a few hours to write it all out.

As Heroic points out, there are many sources to see the old comics and I own a few compendiums of Spiderman, The Incredible Hulk, Fantastic Four, and Silver Surfer. I like to pull them out and read them with our son, just to show him how much fun and how wonderful reading can be. I had a lot of great times with neighborhood friends taking the bus down to our favorite comics shop and spending hours there. We'd pick up all the latest issues to keep up with our main collections, then grab whatever was new and cool to hold for awhile in case it went up in value. We'd then return home, kick it in one of our garages, and just read and read all day. Might even grab some paper, pencils, and markers and try to draw a few ourselves.

Wondrous.

Well, this thread actually inspired me a bit. After our son read "Captain Underpants" to me earlier this evening, we looked at one of my Spiderman books and decided to draw some comics ourselves this weekend. We're going to use his classmates as characters make up some kooky stories. I told him I'd make copies so he could distribute them if he wants.

Now you folks understand just a little bit of the power of comic books!

Well since I was putting away my graphic novels today, I thought I would drop you guys an essential list of graphic novels you need to have even if your not a comic book reader.

Interesting thing is you wont find many capes on my list of essential reading.

MAUS: The RL story of a holocaust survivor drawn by his son. Expect to cry

Persepolis: The RL story of a girl growing up in Iran during the Islamic Revolution. Expect to cry

True Story Swear to God: The RL story of a middle age romance. Expect to cry

Promethea: A story written by Alan More a modern day pagan, about a woman discovering the magical power of womanhood, sexuality, life, magic and the end of the world.

Nightmares and Fairytales: A twist on those old stories you once heard, sexy and scary, nothing is off limits here.

Invincible: Imagine your the son of the worlds strongest superhero and then immagine everything goes horribly wrong! Best written comic on the market today.

Courtney Crumrin and the Night Things: Courtney discovers her great, great uncle is a warlock and well magic runs in the family. Just what would a dissafected 11 year old do with magic?

The Darknight Returns: Batman is 60 years old he has been retired for 10 years. But something stirs in Gotham and deep inside Bruce Wayne the bat howls to be released. Inside is an EPIC battle between SUPERMAN VS. BATMAN, an absouletly breathtaking battle sequence yet to be topped. This book was as much a negative political commentary on Regan's American policies and I am conservative so you know it has to be good to be on my top list!

X-Men The Dark Phoenix Saga: What happens when even an extraordinary person is given ultimate power? A story of love, triumph and tragedy.
Expect to cry

Gloom Cookie: If you have ever been part of the goth sceen this book is a riotous laugh and creepy fairytale all wrapped up in one, the art is beautiful as well.
