“Autumn is a second spring where every leaf is a flower” – Albert Camus |
It was a cold and rainy Saturday. I was driving home when I got a craving. I wanted a grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup. It was a favorite from childhood. My wife was not thrilled but eventually decided it was a good idea and joined me. She even dipped her sandwich in the soup as we did when were children.
So -- What's your comfort foods -- What foods take you back to simpler times. Is it roast turkey that reminds you of Christmas at Grand Ma's, the Meatloaf mom lovingly crafted, or maybe the haggis, neeps, and tatties made by your Uncle Angus for the Burns Supper. What ever it is, curious minds want to know. ------------------------------ “Autumn burned brightly, a running flame through the mountains, a torch flung to the trees.” – Faith |

Yep, I'm with you on the grilled cheese/tomato soup combo. Nothing like it on a rainy day! Only one thing to add: goldfish crackers!
I love a good roast chicken with sausage stuffing. And mashed potatoes! Yum... And let me add...anything with gravy! New England (creamy) clam chowder (sorry, "chowdah") *drool* Not something easily found in the South, unfortunately. Warm brownies. Underbaked chocolate chip cookes...okay, hell with it..just the Pillsbury dough is fine with me! Friendly's Turkey Club Supermelt Dunkin Donuts Iced Latte (caramel flavored) Okay, anything from Dunkin Donuts.... Chocolate cake with chocolate frosting Cookie dough ice cream (Edy's or Dryer's Loaded) Edy's or Dryer's Loaded Chocolate Peanutbutter ice cream Cheesecake Factory's Chocolate Raspberry Truffle Cheesecake A Cape Codder (Cranberry juice and Grey Goose with a lime twist...YUM!!!) Chocolate martini Drake's cakes, particularly Ring Dings Hostess Cupcakes (LOVE that little swirl on top!) New York style pizza, a nice thin flexible crust with cheese, or any number of yummy toppings not including anchovies! Sweet potatos...either mashed with all the sweet stuff, or sweet potato fries Pumpkin pie ANY great sandwich with so much meat you can barely eat it all, or a classic ruben Eggplant parm, chicken parm, veal parm Spaghetti and meatballs This message has been edited. I like a grilled cheese made with swiss cheese.
A good bowl of chili is also a good comfort food on a cold or damp day. ~*~New love is the brightest, and long love is the greatest, but revived love is the tenderest thing known on earth. - Thomas Hardy~*~ |

No Dud here- this is a classic comfort food and damn good! Fried in Bacon Grease with thick gravy! Comforting yes -- not exactly cardio-friendly. MJ ------------------------------ “Autumn burned brightly, a running flame through the mountains, a torch flung to the trees.” – Faith |
