It was a cold and rainy Saturday. I was driving home when I got a craving. I wanted a grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup. It was a favorite from childhood. My wife was not thrilled but eventually decided it was a good idea and joined me. She even dipped her sandwich in the soup as we did when were children.

So -- What's your comfort foods -- What foods take you back to simpler times. Is it roast turkey that reminds you of Christmas at Grand Ma's, the Meatloaf mom lovingly crafted, or maybe the haggis, neeps, and tatties made by your Uncle Angus for the Burns Supper.

What ever it is, curious minds want to know.

Yep, I'm with you on the grilled cheese/tomato soup combo. Nothing like it on a rainy day! Only one thing to add: goldfish crackers!

I love a good roast chicken with sausage stuffing. And mashed potatoes! Yum...

And let me add...anything with gravy!

New England (creamy) clam chowder (sorry, "chowdah") *drool* Not something easily found in the South, unfortunately.

I like a grilled cheese made with swiss cheese.

A good bowl of chili is also a good comfort food on a cold or damp day.

Mmmm, mashed taters (sometimes with some A1 sauce on top... don't ask I'm kinda weird like that!). I like me some shrimp dip with Wheat Thins, too. Ooh and tortilla chips dipped in pork and beans....

DH tried to break his foot on the back of my truck today. Luckily he got off with just a potential sprained ligament. (Good, considering the popping sound I heard ) So he wanted to go to dinner and get some "Comfort food". He was craving... mashed taters. Found him some of those and pot roast. Real comfort food.

No Dud here- this is a classic comfort food and damn good! Fried in Bacon Grease with thick gravy! Comforting yes -- not exactly cardio-friendly.
