I know, I know. But I figured it should go here as it is a book and a movie.
Feel free to discuss any and all things Harry-related, from the books to the movies. I love hearing other's theories and observations, and things they love and hate. And, yes, I'm in my twenties and NOT afraid to admit I like Harry Potter! Also, as an afterthought, I do know that there are a million Harry Potter forums out there, but I never intended to turn this topic into a huge production, just some friendly discussion about it This message has been edited. As my nick suggests I'm in my 40's and I'm just mad about Harry We have seen all the movies as a family and my sons have read all the books I just think J.K.Rowlings really struck gold with Harry Potter it's great to see the kids imagination come to life when they discuss the books and movies you feel like you can escape from reality for a couple of hours, can't wait to see the new one. I have found at my age going bra-less pulls all the wrinkles out of my face |

I agree, it's nice to have some contemporary novels that appeal to children and adults alike, and actually encourage the imagination. We can't wait for the next book to come out, or the movie (although we do like the books better).
Question for fans: Snape, friend or foe? *~When I'm good, I'm very good. But when I'm bad I'm better. -Mae West~* |

Phoenix... Snape is a serious baddy. I've taken the grandsons to al the movies so far and look forward to taking them to the latest when they come up in August. Snag is they are now 12 & 13 so it isn't nearly as much fun as it used to be
I also remember taking them to the LOTR and the younger one shouting loudly 'yes' as the elves unleashed their rain of arrows at the battle of Helms Deep - all the adults cheered In all things be true to yourself |

Oh, Harry! (bobs up and down) How did I miss this thread so far?
I am in my THIRTIES (pass me the bottle, will you?). I generally can´t stand Harry because he is always feeling so much the victim and always crying over himself instead of being the sexy self assertive asshole he could be (sorry sorry sorry) but hey the WORLD I mean it is lovely, so rich so detailed so finely textured. I love the books better than the films, they are so much richer, but the films are nice too. My favourite is the third, both book and film. The one where Sirius Black is introduced and the memorable and beautiful (in the film) Buckbeak. I think they made a great job in timing the scene of Buckbeak apparent death in the movie. I can´t stomach that SIrius is dead. They better find a way to bring him back. Stomp. The lunatic, the lover and the poet Are of imagination all compact |

I agree. The third movie and book are my favorite so far. Although, I reserve the right to change my mind once the new movie and book come out

I believe the text I sent Ranger as I was walking out of the movie was something like this:
"Holy fuckwads upside down in a bottle of gin!" Movie. Was. Awesome. Best to date. And I really liked the third one too. Obviously a lot had to be left out, but it was still damn good. And I'll be at Borders as soon as the kids are in bed this coming Friday. ~Ang |

I'm with Ang on this one. I'll be at Borders at midnight on Friday, just on the other side of the coast.
We just came back from watching the movie. It was fantastic. Vorbis was literally hanging on the edge of the seat. For a while, I was concerned that he was going to end up in the lap of the person sitting in front of him. But he was a dear, and stayed next to me. ~*~New love is the brightest, and long love is the greatest, but revived love is the tenderest thing known on earth. - Thomas Hardy~*~ |

We saw the movie a couple of nights ago, and we agree with you guys...very good indeed! We also loved the third one, and they did a good job of condensing the longest book. I saw that this director is taking the reins on the next movie as well. However, although we were able to follow the movie without difficulty, both B and I agreed that if someone had not read the books, they would have a little harder time following this one. But, a great movie nonetheless
We pre-ordered the book, and will be at a family wedding, so no Borders or B&N for us *~When I'm good, I'm very good. But when I'm bad I'm better. -Mae West~* |

LONDON -- It has begun. We knew it was coming – how could it not, with humans being the creatures they are? – yet still it is disappointing. News services report that a cadre of obnoxious spoilsports apparently has leaked details of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" on the Internet.
I say "apparently" because those in a position to confirm or deny the accuracy of the leaked info cannot do so, without inadvertently spilling the beans themselves. So we're left with the specter of online literary party-poopers, of people whose greatest joy in life is flinging cauldrons of cold water upon the joy and passion of others. Did we see this coming? Of course we did. But that doesn't mean we can't offer a firm "Phooey" to the nasty know-it-alls who possess updated modems but undetectable consciences. Sadly, what appear to be copies of actual pages of "Deathly Hallows" have shown up on various sites. Here in Harry's hometown, the recent Potter news includes the dastardly Internet leaks; the settlement of a dispute between Bloomsbury, Rowling's publisher, and Asda, a large British supermarket chain over the planned discounting of "Deathly Hallows" copies; the release last Tuesday of a series of Potter-themed stamps; and a bit of newspaper editorializing over the "overhyping" of the Potter phenomenon. "It will certainly be a relief," huffed Judith Woods in London's Daily Telegraph on Wednesday, "when Harry Potter returns to simply being a great series of books, rather than a relentless merchandising opportunity." But it's the leaking – completely predictable as it is – that seems most egregious. Does Harry die? How about Ron or Snape or Hagrid? And is Dumbledore really dead? True Potters fans don't want to know "Who?" They want to know "How?" and "Why?" They want to see, that is, how Rowling winds up the long and intricate arc of her captivating story; they want to gauge if it makes emotional, psychological and logistical sense. Leakers, do your worst. Long after you've moved on to other innocent curiosities you can ruin for gleeful self-aggrandizement, Potter books will still be delighting the pure of heart. You're not so much as a grubby footnote to a literary phenomenon. |
