Transformers The Movie? Have to say I missed that one Ranger. I'll have to give this some thought. On a funny note, The Hub has had an intern with him some of this summer who hadn't seen either Ghostbusters or Star Wars! How can you grow up and not see either one? Shocking, I tell you.

Transformers the movie had the final battle between Optimus Prime and Megatron, ending in Optimus' death. I cried... I was 10... I still get a bit misty eyed when I watch him die. Had Orson Wells, Judd Nelson, Leonard Nimoy and Eric Idle doing voices. Was a surprisingly good movie.

Yep, I know they are more than ten but I'll just borrow Pappa Bear'S quote: "Eh, What can you do?" In no particular order:

Casablanca (1942)
The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
Star Wars (1977)
Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
Das Boot (The Boat 1981)
Alien (1979)
Some Like It Hot (1959)
Aliens (1986)
Blade Runner (1982)
The Princess Bride (1987)
Life of Brian (1979)
Der Himmel über Berlin (Wings of Desire 1987)
Harold and Maude (1971)
The Blues Brothers (1980)
The Jungle Book (1967)
Ronja Rövardotter (Ronia, the Robber's Daughter 1984)

Ronia, the Robber's Daughter might not be known in the U.S. but I think this Swedish film (based on Astrid Lindgren's book) is the best children's film made ever. Thinking about it: make that best FAMILY film ever!

Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
Eating Raoul (1982)

Thanks for the information Ranger, I seem to have missed that one. Although I can understand how that could be a moving experience for a 10 year old boy!

Hmmmm....my list (although I do reserve the right to change my mind.) And like Cecily I've included chick flicks. While the Dirty Dozen and High Noon are wonderful films that I do enjoy, they don't go on my best list.

10. It's a Wonderful Life 1946

9. Young Frankenstein 1974

8. The Wizard of OZ 1939

7. The Godfather 1972

6. Cinderella 1950

5. When Harry Met Sally 1989

4. Raiders of the Lost Ark 1981

3. The Sound of Music 1965

2. Star Wars 1977

1. Casablanca 1942

Runners up: All the President's Men 1976, Poltergeist 1982, Moonstruck 1987, My Fair Lady 1964

Scrodpuppy, while Citizen Kane is a fabulous cinematic achievment it is a bit long and boring, at least for me. Cerebrally I can appreciate it, but it doesn't make my heart go pitterpatter. If that makes sense.

Northern Dirt I can understand why some people might not like Casablanca, but I had the good fortune to see it in a real theater on a huge screen and there is something about seeing it in that location that changes your opinion. It was rereleased for an anniversary of the movie and the prints were new and pristine. Ingrid Bergman was one of the most beautiful women ever and Humphrey Bogart is Rick. For me it just worked.

I did see it on a theatre screen in university.. wasnt my deal.. though I find most acting from back in those times very awful, casablanca to me was one of the worst.

Most of the films id say were trully "classics" were made in the end of the 1960's up until the early 1980's (though right now I cant think of any post 1980 movies id call classics)..

there are to me a few pre late 60's movies Id call "classic". Lolita, Dr Strange love, west side story, citizen kane. Id

To me movies like Deliverence, straw dogs, apocolypse now. the godfather, a clocks work orange, marathon man, taxidriver, midnight cowboy and dog day afternoon were movies made in the true golden age of Film.

Not to forget alot of the best Horror films as well. Night of the living dead, dawn of the dead, texas chainsaw masacre, halloween, etc
