I just purchased Guitar Hero III for our son on the Wii platform. We're giving it to him this weekend and can't wait!

I doubt this thread will go anywhere, but anyone out there who has this game or played it, please shoot some tips and tricks! I'm tired of all the bluster about Halo, so let's ROCK.

I think I'm going to get Kealii a real guitar for X-mas. He seems to be gravitating toward music in a big way and has mentioned wanting to learn it. He's been learning to DJ along with me as well and plans to go to Burning Man next year and spin a set.

We still haven't given him the Guitar Hero game, but plan to surprise him on Sunday morning. I'm going to sneak it into bed with him so he wakes up and sees it first thing.

My advice? Don't buy junk- it'll be to frustrating in the long run to learn. Fortunately, there some decent stuff available that's not too expensive.

Guitar Hero is what got be (indirectly) back into messing with guitars and amps again. Heard people talking about the game and it reminded me of how good it felt to crank up the amp and hit a power chord. Cool

I agree, Vorbis, quality rules and I've found some amazing deals on Craigslist. I got a Korg drum machine, for example, that retails for almost 700 bucks for 300 practically brand new. I'm checking out the guitars and hope to find a similar deal.

Tomorrow's the big day when Kealii gets his Guitar Hero 3 game and we have a special treat planned. We are friends with one of the developers of the game and he's coming over to "jam" with our son tomorrow night!

what tho really would be the coolest. would be a guitar that hooks into the game console and actually teaches kids to play for real.

i like the guitar hero series. my kid has them, but as a learning tool it could do really nice things.

cheers
N.

I was watching some guys play it the other day, and while I don't think it's a bad thing, the rec center I was at also loans out guitars and amps. They could have been playing real guitars.

I guess I would open my mouth more if I had more time to help people learn. Most of them would be surprised how difficult it isn't.

There used to be a guitar called a "Fretlight", where the chords would show up as lit leds on the fretboard.

yeah! i recall those vorbis! i think yamaha made a trainer like this sometime in the past too for some reason.

but to hook the guitar into the tv for interactive lessons.

that would def. rock.
and teachers at least in these parts are rare.
big waiting lists to get in with just about anyone.

cheers!
Nigel.

No Guitar Hero, but I did just buy Lego Star Wars the Complete Saga (Wii version) for B for Christmas. I'll have to wait til he gets back before I give it to him, but this is the first video game I've ever bought him as a present, so I hope he likes it! Smiler

Can't help you on that one. I'm musically stuck in Chicago, circa 1965.

Yes, it's totally amazing. Our son finished all 70 songs on easy level and is tackling the next difficulty setting. There are some pretty great songs in there, too (though you may be surprised to hear your son humming "I am the Antichrist" before he goes to bed! LOL
