I read the book a long time ago, and saw the cartoon movie, also. Very much looking forward to taking my kids to see this new version, I love the way they can make things look so real nowadays! The commercials look fantastic (I'm a special effects nut Razzer). I loved the story, it was dangerous, believable, and actually had a lesson to learn in there....unlike many of today's movies. Not that I mind mindless entertainment, but it's nice to be able to talk with kids after and discuss things, too. 'Home Alone' type movies just don't give that option.

I have read a few reviews and the person hadnt read the book but found the only flaw was that (please note if you havent read or watched this, this MIGHT give it away.. so stop reading) no one good seemed to die. This sort of bugged me since if you read the series, they are children, they arent supposed to die.

The whole series I found really great, the books of course have one big great thing about them, they are for children AND adults. Thats the big reason why it is such a classic.

I also heard that the special effects are great and the white witch is REALLY scary. Which is good... since the last movie I watched she wasnt too scary (the BBC one.. real life, not cartoon). I hope its a huge hit so we can get the chance to see the other ones (The Magicians's Nephew, the horse and his boy, Prince Caspian, the Voyage of the Dawn Treader, The Silver Chair, and the Last Battle.)

I never got to any of the other books. Maybe I'll look into that for xmas presents for my oldest, and just 'borrow' them from her, hehe.

You should.. the lion the witch and the wardrobe was my least favorite story. The Magicians Newphew is about how Narnia was made.. (this book was made after the other books but come first in the story). The horse and his boy was a really good story (notice the horse has the boy, not the boy the horse), the characters are different in a few of the books.
Magcians Newphew is about the old professor in the LWW. Its really cool. And eventually susan and Peter are too old to continue in some of the other books so there are new characters but Lucy and Edmund are in a few more. They even bring in a cool rat. lol Smiler Sorry for the clutter of this post.

There was an interesting letter being circulated recently, purportedly written by Lewis noting that he never wished to see a live-action version of LWW created. He couldn't imagine Aslan being produced as anything but a sad substitute for the regalness that he is supposed to convey.

I really wonder what he'd say if he saw the cgi being done today...

Well that ship has sailed. Twice. the movie comes out friday, and there was one made awhile back. Which really does Aslan no justice, So I would agree greatly with that. But now we are much more advanced. Oh well... I have met many a small child who seem to now be picking up the book because of the movie. good.

Took the kids to see it, hubby thought it was less than stellar but he didn't really care for the storyline. I admit there were some inconsistancies in the original plot (which I'm not going into here, spoil it Razzer), but it's really an enjoyable movie. It wasn't as 'cinematic' as, say, LOTR, but the cg were very good, and aslan looked incredible, as well as the rest of the characters. My kids loved it. They wanted to go back in and watch it all over again. During the movie my 2-year-old kept pointing at the different animals and exclaiming over them, whispering when I shushed him, was too cute.

As for keeping the 'regal' look to aslan, they couldn't have done a better job.
