Bah; absolutely terrible movie conversion of an "eh, it's okay" graphic novel. And I usually like Frank Miller.
I've ranted enough about how bad 300 was on other boards that I'll spare you, because I know some folks like it, but my wife walked out of the theater 30 minutes before the ending and I wound up wishing I had joined her.
I was always in awe of the stories and history of the Thermopylae battle. But I am not sure I want to see this film. This book was one of my very favourite as a teenager. Still rereading it now and then. Give it a try!

And let's not forget the fact that is was an ancient Greek bloodfest. But hey... what can I say... I'm a huge fan of Frank Miller, love all of his stuff, I mean c'mon... he's part of the comicbook worlds holy Trinity... Stan Lee, Frank Miller and Chris Clairmont. And any movie that has mass amounts of bloodshed just makes me happy. As far as the storyline (Comic adaptation), it was nearly frame for frame identical to the comic. With a few add ins, but over all... I loved it. Everyone I've talked to has loved it. I mean everyone's entitled to their own opinion right? And mine on this is that it'll win an award for best movie... EVER! (And anyone who just missed that Talladega Nights quote is an uncultured tool. just kidding)
Ehy ehy, I didn't critic anyone for seeing or liking the movie did I? I have seen only pics of it and it is without doubt visually stunning, yep, Meandjoe, I loved the colouring too. Just I don't get along well with very violent movies, what can you do?

Mixed thing there, meandjoe. Frank Miller is the comic author who wrote both 300 and Sin City--but the 300 movie was directed by Zach Snyder, while a completely different team (Robert Rodriguez of "Desperado" fame, and others) did the different--and to my mind far superior--"Sin City" movie.
We have seen both 300 and Sin City. 300 was good, the images were beautiful (the love scene between the king and queen was very hot!), and it was exciting. However, we saw it at a discount movie theater, as we both agreed it wasn't worth paying $10 per person to go see. Enjoyable nonetheless.
Sin City, on the other hand, was a superior movie. We both love Robert Rodriguez and Quinten Tarentino who guest directed parts. We borrowed it from a friend, and we both felt we missed out on seeing it in the theater. Very good acting, great plots thanks to Frank Miller, and even more stunning visuals than 300. But this is just my opinion.

Wow, men in battle wearing next to nothing -- a couple actually in love with each other -- and one of the best love scenes I've ever seen in a movie -- what's not to love about 300.
The fact that it's all done with green screens :S.. but its cool to know that they have to syncopate with the background and all too. Definite purchase material.
I'm just not as crazy about the genre as everyone else seems to be. I thought Gerard Butler was great, and the women were beautiful, but I am currently in an educational situation where I am surrounded by actual Persians, and if you even mention "300" you get an earful about historical inaccuracy. (I usually remind them that they are free to make their own movie.)
But it contains the battle cry of my 2nd Amendment activist brothers:
"Spartans!! Lay down your arms!!"
"Persians!! COME AND GET THEM!!"
When you see a bumper sticker that says "Molon Labe!" in greek text, now you know what it means.
