Okay, favorite Christmas songs.

Traditional - "Do You Hear What I Hear?"
Non-traditional - "Merry Christmas From the Family" Robert Earl Keen.
Most likely to make me horny - "Same Old Lang Syne" Dan Fogelberg

I could write a novel here. I love Christmas music. My mom's an Elvis fan so I grew up listening to his Christmas album and I still play it every year while we're decorating the tree. Wouldn't be the holidays without hearing Buh-buh-blue Christmas!

Right now my favorite song is the Little Drummer Boy with David Bowie & Bing Crosby.

I love my Aaron Neville Christmas album where he sings O Holy Night, the Bells of St. Mary's and especially Louisiana Christmas Day.

My kids love Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer. Oh, I also love the Muppets singing the 12 Days of Christmas

I don't actually have a Christmas song that makes me horny. Guess I need to work on that!

Does everybody watch the kids' Christmas specials every year? What's your favorite? Mine is the Grinch. Or maybe Peanuts.

Fun topic, Silk.

Me too, Katie!

So much I associate with Christmas.

White Christmas by Bing Crosby
-- this one has special meaning to me, and it will ALWAYS and forevermore remind me of Christmas 2000, which for me was my last "White" Christmas. Same thing for my sister last year.

Traditional:
O Holy Night, Silent Night (okay, I like the original Stille Nacht version best), and Angels We Have Heard on High... all sung by church choirs. Spent enough years singing with my dad in our church choir that I really appreciate them now.

Nontraditional:
Rudolph, Jingle Bell Rock, I'll Be Home For Christmas, and The Christmas Song (generally the one sung by Nat King Cole but I haven't found a version I don't like yet)... plus Walking in a Winter Wonderland and Let it Snow... okay, anything that has to do with snow really.

Like Katie, I haven't really noticed one making me horny.

As for Christmas specials? So, so many...
There's one that I can't remember the name of... matter of fact, the only thing I remember is the opening credits where all you hear to begin with is a children's choir singing "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear".

My family used to have a tape that had several Christmas specials that came out in the 80's. I loved that tape. It had some Thanksgiving ones too... All the Charlie Brown specials (yes I know it's Peanuts but they call it Charlie Brown so I do too), the Mickey Mouse Christmas Carol, The Looney Tunes holiday specials, Garfield's Christmas Special (I REALLY love this one, it still has the power to make me sniffle), and probably most of all... the very first Claymation Christmas. You know, the one with the dinosaur hosts and the ice skating hippos? Yeah. I love it and I am bound and determined to find it. And I can't forget Rudolph, Frosty, or the story of Saint Nick... all those ones hosted by the friendly postman guy.

I know I'm missing ones, but I'm sure I've bored you to tears with the list I've posted...

Awesome thread. Forced me to pull up some really fond memories.

Yeah, lots of memories. I'm not even religious but I get sentimental about Christmas Carols. Years ago I had the pleasure of organizing a Carols by Candlelight event (3 years running) for a around six or seven thousand people who'd come with their families for an evening picnic in the beautiful grounds of the Victorian country mansion where the event was held. The local dance school would provide a hundred angels with halos and wings for the pageant, there were elaborately costumed wise men on camels and a heartbreakingly beautiful nativity scene complete with lambs and the like. Children's delighted faces, sweet voices and candelight are a powerful combination. I'm reduced to tears if I hear Silent Night, always, everytime without fail.

Forgot to add that Eartha Kitt singing this is my possibly my fave Christmas song, she purrs...

Santa Baby

Santa Baby, slip a sable under the tree, For me.
been an awful good girl, Santa baby,
so hurry down the chimney tonight.

Santa baby, a 54 convertible too,
Light blue.
I'll wait up for you dear,
Santa baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight.

Think of all the fun I've missed,
Think of all the fellas that I haven't kissed,
Next year I could be just as good,
If you'll check off my Christmas list,

Santa baby, I wanna yacht,
And really that's not a lot,
Been an angel all year,
Santa baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight.

Santa honey, there's one thing I really do need,
The deed
To a platinum mine,
Santa honey, so hurry down the chimney tonight.

Santa cutie, and fill my stocking with a duplex,
And checks.
Sign your 'X' on the line,
Santa cutie, and hurry down the chimney tonight.

Come and trim my Christmas tree,
With some decorations bought at Tiffany's,
I really do believe in you,
Let's see if you believe in me,

Santa baby, forgot to mention one little thing,
A ring.
I don't mean on the phone,
Santa baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight,
Hurry down the chimney tonight,
Hurry, tonight.

Tried to get the little one to watch Charlie Brown the other night. He was more interested in playing his Gameboy. Now if Power Rangers or Digimon had a Christmas special...

We will watch two movies as part of our tradition. On Dec.23 we watch Christmas Vacation. Enough slapstick to keep the little one entertained, he really giggles when the cat gets fried Then on Christmas Eve we watch White Christmas after he goes to sleep.

Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald singing 'It's Cold Outside' (way naughtier than Ella and Luis).

Squirrel Nut Zippers singing 'Winter Weather' and 'Christmas in Carolina'.

Gayle Peevey singing 'I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas'.

Marilyn Monroe singing 'Santa Baby'.

Luis Armstrong singing 'Zat You Santa Claus?'.

I love all the churchy music too, though 'The Holly and Ivy' is my favourite and 'God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen'.

I love Christmas in theory, but hate it in practice.

Nothing, and I mean NOTHING beats "Skating," from the Charlie Brown X-mas album. Once you hear it, you'll go "Oh yeah, I remember that song!" The whole CD is great, but that particular song practically defines X-mas.
