I have melted into a pool of musical satisfaction. It's awfully erotic.
Ranger and I went to see Phantom of the Opera last night for our anniversary. I don't know how the general populace is taking this film, but I was literally soaked all the way through, on the verge of tears and shaking uncontrollably for most of it. The fact that Andrew Lloyd Webber helped write the screenplay and produced it probably contributed greatly to its perfection, but no matter the reason it was awesome. Everyone should have the chance, if they love music, to see this film on the big screen. We left the movie and immediately bought the soundtrack. I don't think I've ever done that. Today I am listening to it and have goosebumps all over again. The awesomeness that is Andrew Lloyd Webber's most famous work was done justice with this movie. I can't say enough good things about it. *melt* ~Ang |

My wife and I saw it too. We saw it performed in Toronto about 8 years ago and LOVED it. We were a little tentative about taking it from the stage to the screen but thought it was great. She's even seen it again with my daughter (6yrs old). My daughter closed her eyes in a couple of the scary parts but loved the music and dances to it around the house.
The biggest difference between stage and screen for us was the way the phantom and the hero were depicted. On screen we were definitely feeling more sexual tension between Christine and the Phantom than our protagonist ever could hope for. I was rooting for him this time. |

I was also worried (perhaps a little excessively but I'll never admit to that in public... oops) that it wouldn't hold a candle to the stage version but I was pleasantly surprised.
It was incredibly hard to bite my tongue and not sing along during the movie sometimes. I agree that the sexual tension between Christine and the Phantom was much thicker on screen, which made for one horny audience member (I'm sure there were more than just me, of course) and provided a tension around the rest of our day that was transferred into some great sexual energy once we got home. I SO love rock operas. ~Ang |

Haven't seen the movie yet, but have seen the stage production some years back, which was awesome. I guess the DVD will have to do as I doubt we'll get to see it in the movie theater.

Same here. Saw the stage version but not the movie. Unless you call Spongebob and The Incredibles rock operas, that is not a genre we get to visit often.

If I would have had to leave Ranger home to go see this in the theater, I would have.
Then again, my intended major before I left school and went Army was music performance. The first orchestra teacher I considered a 'mentor' was hellbent on getting us to realize that not all orchestral music had to be 'old' sounding, although the old sounding stuff is awesome too because of the way he taught it. He arranged classic rock for us to play and expected us to perform it with as much technique and panache as we would use on a very technically difficult solo piece. Because of that and his love for ALW's work, I'm easily caught dancing around my house singing along every time that music finds its way into the CD player. It's no wonder I'm mildly obessed with this version of Phantom, considering how well it was put together. ~Ang |

My favorite rock opera...Rocky Horror Picture Show. I wasn't one that dressed as my favorite character, but loved to people watch and the music was okay.
Least favorite... Tommy. Husband is a huge Who fan so we rented it one night. Ann-Margart in beans, please ![]() |

Pink Floyd - The Wall. Brings back memories of the old acid days. I loved college.

Okay Freddy,
It appears as though I have hit a nerve here. My point is the music and actors deserve much better than the film delivers. No one is a bigger Tina Turner fan than me but the film was impossible to understand stoned or straight. As far as being bound and showing respect, that's a whole different subject ![]() Eddy, spank his bottom for me tonight! ![]() |

Yes, there should be more musicals with Anne Margaret swimming around in beans.
I'm a huge musical fan. Haven't gotten to see or do any in the past decade or so since we had kids. Les Miserables is probably one of my all-time favorites, along with Rent (the stage version), and Phantom (stage version). Silk: I love Tina Turner, too. That woman is a goddess. |
