I love toys and am starting a collection. One challenge is where to store toys where they are convenient but won't be found by our kids.

I saw a hanger bag that looked interesting.

Now I realize I need to keep the collection small and size of items is definitely a factor.

i have a dresser with 1/2 drawers, and the other side is drawersfor shirts, with a locking door. this has become the toy cabinet for all the related persuits. with kids about, a good locking toy box is always a nice idea, especially something that locks and slides under a bed. or stows in a bedside table?

we keep a refinished cigar box next to the bed too. with lift out trays. adding a lock is not a difficult chore. most good cigar shops sell off some beautiful cigar boxes when empty. and they smell awesome (if you like the smell of spanish cedar etc)

lots of ways to go.

Oh come on people what a fuss about nothing: go to the nearest diy shop buy one of those large tool cases made a bit like a suitcase, stuff your things in and keep it under the bed. They come in all shapes sizes and colours, some have locks some have number combinations, some have weels. They have all sort of pockets and compartments (adjustable), and once closed theu are dust proof. As easy as that.

good idea snow, small inexpensive plastic tool box. you can put a combination padlock on it and slide it under the bed.

ill note here tho.

if you have toys made of "jelly" they can be reactive to the plastic tray or tool box, in that case, a small non reactive tacklebox made for fishing lures might work better.

the chemicals in the jelly. im not sure which. dissolve the plastic in the box. since they make fishing lures out of jelly, they had to use different compounds for the boxes.

good luck in what you seek

I guess in Italy we treat tools better in the us. Most tool boxes I've seen there (can't tell in Germany) are lined with fabric. Many of these boxes are actually very pretty. Geee, may be Italy makes fashionable bags even for tools and I did not know. Frowner

Nigel,

Once again your logic and solution are infalable. I would never have thought about the tackle box idea and the interaction of the plastics.
That is why you re the inventor around here! Good one!

We have ours in a lockable Cedar hope chest at the end of our bed. It is large enough for out DVD, Books, Toys, Games, Ropes, and all the naughty cards we have given each other. Plus it looks nice and matches our bedroom furnature.

We just use a small tool box. I wish I had one lined with fabric like what Snowflake was describing. I wonder how involved it would be to make one.

I think I might have just found my new project!

I picked up this box from Office Depot. It's a file box that has a locking code on it. It's decent in size, too. (Price was about $40)

I guess it's time to get a toy box. I washed my worm and forgot all about it until I heard my oldest child taking a shower. When he was done, I went in the bathroom to remove it and found that he had covered it with a magazine so noone else would see it.

OOPS! Eeker At least he had the good sense to cover it.

Question is who was more embarassed -- you or a teen ager who learned his Mom has and uses toys Wink

At the moment I realized I left the toy in the bathroom, I think I was the most embarrassed. Now that a couple of days have passed, I'm over it, but I'm sure he's still embarrassed by it. "Ewe, my parents still have sex?!?"
