Please send me into the correct direction if this question or topic idea has already been stated.. I looked and this question wasn't asked..

My question- havee any of you females or males' women dealt with a birth control pill that seems like a placebo after about 5 months of usage?

Reason- Ive been on several BC pills and the current one has been giving me the biggest amount of grief so far (all things occuring during a menstruation: cramps, crabbiness +++, period..) and I have been religiously taking it.. so my question is anyone heard of this occuring or am I the odd woman out?

I have been on different pills and each one seems to cause different side effects than the other. Or the side effects are stronger with one than the other. I'd switch and see if you can find one that works a bit better with you!

I am going to be switching to find a good one, but also switching GYN's to have one when I move (#1) and also to get a second opinion (#2).

I know I really don't have the vagina to be posting about the pill, but I just have to say that my wife recently switched BC from something to Yaz and...wow. She feels better, is less cranky and is more horny now than I've really ever seen her (other than when we lived apart). Just wanted to share that input. As always, though, your mileage may vary.

Sorry, I don't have any brand specific answers for you. I 'fixed' that problem a year ago. Smiler
But, even before then, I had so many problems with BC pills that I had to find another method. I could just never find the perfect one. I tolerated a few, but had such a wonky work and lifestyle that it was hard to remember to take it on schedule. So I went on Depo (shot) and then the patch (band-aid type..had issues with 'stick problems') and then the Nuvaring (little "o-ring" inserted vaginally). Honestly I thought the Nuvaring was the greatest birth control there was. I had no issues with side-effects, only changed it once a month, and I never had issues with it during sex. I even sometimes forgot it was there.
Sorry to ramble, but it goes to show that sometimes you just have to keep trying different formulas when it comes to hormones and the body.
Hopefully your new doctor will have a different opinion or a whole different experience with different brands.

Having taken Ortho Tri-Cyclen, Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo, Estrostep FE, Aviane, Alesse, Loestrin 24Fe, and Yaz (thanks to an indecisive Student Health Services), I can say that Yasmin is the clear winner. Who cares if a pill pack has 3 placebo pills or 7? If you don't want a period, just start a new pack. The low-dose pills are the ones that claim to have the "3-day, lighter periods", but the tiny amount of hormones in the pills is not enough to effectively cancel out the body's natural hormones, so many women suffer cramps, bloating, and all kinds of other icky things that Midol claims to cure. I know that doctors will not prescribe low-dose pills to larger women because of the possibility of reduced effectiveness, but I'm 5' 2" and right at 100 pounds and Yaz, Loestrin 24Fe and Ortho Tri-Cyclin Lo felt like the entire packages were placebos. Needless to say, it was not fun. I've been on Yasmin for a year now, which is more than twice as long as I took any of the others, and I love it.
