Halloween candy bowl! Help, I need some support. Shake your finger at me and tell me, sternly, to stop the madness. Remind me how miserable I'll be if I can't fit into my holiday party clothes. Point out that the chocolate is clogging my arteries.

I'm going to stop. No more chocolate. I promise.

Whew, I feel better already

Thanks,

Katie

I brought my leftover Halloween candy to work and stuck it on the lunch room table. It made me a hero, and got it out of my house. Highly recommended...

... Harry & David gift boxes filled with nuts, truffles, candy canes, cookies and jellied candies.

Okay, I'm lying prostrate on the floor in a food stupor, surrounded by discarded tower boxes in graduated sizes. NOT a pretty sight!

Any suggestions for avoiding holiday food overindulgence? I've had a great year so far restoring myself to a level of shapely fitness I thought I'd never see again. Okay, so I'll go do penance combined with damage control--Life cycle here I come.

For the near future though--Any strategies for resisting calorific temptations?

The tactic that seems to work for me so far is to keep the indulgences somewhere I don't usually go or behind something I don't usually move. For example, we've got a can of Cashew Roca in the kitchen, but it's on the kitchen counter nearly behind the stand mixer. So I only reach my hand back there once or twice a day. So far it's lasted about a month, which is AMAZING for me and Cashew Roca.

The other tactic I use in concert with this is putting the lid back on after every single piece of whatever-it-is. Forcing myself to reopen the box or container every time I go to get something puts that little extra barrier between me and the yummy, plus having to go that little extra bit gives me the extra time to reassess my conscience.

I found the only way for me to resist temptation is to resist it at the supermarket. It was very difficult at the beginning, but then I just stopped passing the dangerous areas.
My mother and granmother cook tons of sweets for Xmas. I try to steer clear of their flats until my uncle has made his visits. After that little is left and the way is safe Smiler

My plan for the holidays is to print out a few choice pics of myself LAST year. I'll gaze upon them before going to any holiday gatherings to remind myself of where I was. Then I will indulge in a bite or two of my very favorites after I've drank a full glass of water and visited the veggie tray that I'm planning on taking to any parties we'll be attending!

(And yea for me... I'm now a size 12, I was an 18+ this time last year! I don't intend to go back!)

Good luck everyone and Holiday willpower to you all!

Katie,

Nice kitty pic, thanks for the smile. Hope that you are having success in the food dept. When I finally found some resolve to lose a few pounds recently, it was a bit easier that I thought. In 5 weeks I have lost 10 pounds.

Nothing new, just focused on eatinig more protein based foods, and more frequently (every 2-3 hours during the day), and drinking more water, stopped salting food, and continued reg exercise. While it seemed like I was always eating, in fact I was never really hungery, so no big meals. In additon, lots of small meals means no big insulin spikes which serve to slow down metabilism and increase storage of calories.
