HPV (human papillomavirus) causes cancer. We’ve known for a while that it’s responsible for most cervical cancers. It’s also implicated in the rise of rectal cancers and now their finding it associated with tonsil cancer. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear it linked to bladder and/or prostate cancers in the near future.

I don’t know if there is a test for it but thank goodness there is a vaccine. I’m sure some parents will avoid it because it might make kids promiscuous???

i didnt frown on it because of possible promiscuity. i frowned on the vaccine for my daughter, because it was fast tracked through the FDA, and foisted upon the people rather hurriedly. and id rather she wait and see what the wreckage is before she becomes part of it.

i dont have a lot of faith in pharm companies these days or the FDA.

Excellent point Nigel! I had forgotten how fast it went through the FDA. I guess I’m a little numb to vaccine safety objection since I’ve had everything under the sun involuntarily shot into my “whatever” for 2 decades of military service LOL. They used to “encourage” us to sign waivers for the stuff that wasn’t “approved”. I don’t miss those days.

If this vaccine is safe I think it should be added to the routine list. Better than turning up with cancer from HPV 20 years after you were infected.

I know this guy's a bit Hippy but he scours articles in many medical journals as well as over seas to try and bring another point of view. (check out the swine flu)

Please realize that media outlets and the owners/advertisers who bankroll those outlets are all in bed with each other. Just last year those same two-faced reporters were heralding this vaccine. They don't think, they just read what they're told to read.

Please...don't let your daughters be guinea pigs.

I am afraid that history has proven you wrong. Plagues, epidemics, and pandemics have been recorded throughout history. Plus, vaccines are proven to work. Small Pox, Measles, Polio, Diphtheria, Whooping Cough, and a multiple of other dreaded diseases have been all but eradicated in areas where vaccines are used.

Yes the human body can fight off a great many thing but there are things out there that our system cannot handle.


As for the HPV Vaccine. I trust my kids pediatrician. She has been treating my kids for most of their lives and when asked if she plans to have her daughter vaccinated (when she is of appropriate age) she said yes. I know her, I do not know this reporter from Adam, I have no idea what HIS agenda is but I do know our pediatrician has only the best for my daughter at heart.

I think Mercola is someone who often has good information slanted by the fact that his articles link back to stuff he sells. Also, there's areas he covers where he's NOT adequately educated to talk (generally on herbs, says this herbalist)

On the other perspective, when people say they "trust their doctor", it gives me the willies. I certainly won't say that doctors are bad or that modern medicine is inherently bad, BUT how many trustworthy doctors had women on hormone replacement therapy, that we now know was one of the leading causes of breast and lung cancer deaths (see the end for info)? How many trustworthy doctors were prescribing vioxx, which had serious cardiac side effects and causes who knows how many fatalities?

The way the drug companies behave is literally akin to the Mob. This is NOT an overstatement; just listen to how Merck covered up Vioxx side effects and had a methodical process to slander physicians who spoke out against Vioxx. NPR did some GREAT reporting on this awhile ago...

So, guess who makes Gardasil, the HPV Vax? Merck. And THEY are the ones providing most of the safety information to the doctors. We already know they blatantly lied about the safety of Vioxx to doctors, even when it was clear that it was causing cardiac deaths.

Maybe we should give them the benefit of the doubt, and expect that they've learned their lessons and are not swayed by the income that will come in to them from this vaccine if they can get approximately half the population to take it.

But really, be realistic.

This stuff hasn't been around long enough for us to really know how safe it is. It's an unknown. Anyone who says different is lying or ignorant, in my opinion. Whether or not the FDA approved it (remember, the FDA approved Vioxx, HRT and a LOT of other drugs that ended up being disasters), putting our daughters on it is no different than signing them up for a drug trial. The girls that get this drug now will become the ones who we learn about its safety from, over the next 10-40 years.
