Well, I know of at least one other cyclist in here, but how about the rest of you? I just recently started biking to help get into shape and blow off some excess stress from work.

So far so good. Topless and I bought a tandem which we've put about 60 miles on and I just bought a road bike to start racking up more mileage on. My goal for the year is to hit 1000 miles between the different bikes. I started out this spring on my old mountain bike and quickly realized that was going to kill me trying to keep up with the guys on road bikes during the group rides.

Let's hear from the rest of you.

D got me this bike for Christmas and I LOVE it. It's not for anything serious, but it rides as smooth as butter and is perfect for pedaling around town, or going here and there with the kids.

I have a mountain bike with which I go to work during the good season. I think I wd like to bike more in the future. I used to be an "only bike" person until distances home-work became too big, and the job too tiring. Now I work near home again, but I sort of lost the habit to bike. Tring to get back into it however. Mountain bike is a real hard job though!

On saturday I will bike to the river for a bit of nude tanning, first of the season! Cool

Does a stationary bike count?? Big Grin

I love the outdoors, especially hiking, but most of the places I hike aren't fit for a bike, unless you like carrying it.

I know what you mean Jay. I haven't done much hiking since we don't have that kind of scenery around here though. Should be some nice mountain riding up in your area though.

Hey Buck,

I'm a dyed-in-the-wool roadie and used to commute 15 miles each way to work over a 750-foot hill, but since the kids were born and I've become the stay at home daddy I'm limited to the occasional 1/2 hour ride on the rollers in the garage.

I miss the road and hope to get back to it more seriously after the kids start school or something. In the meantime I'm OK with the rollers and a weekend ride now and then.

Congrats on the tandem!! 60 sounds like a good start and 1000 miles for the year is a great goal.

Ms. Pear, I remember hearing about the Elektra - great bike! A lot of bike makers are getting back into the idea that bikes can be just for fun and what they're turning out is beautiful bikes that are easy and fun to ride. I see those out there when I ride and once in a while I feel like the equivalent of some doofus driving an F1 car to the grocery store! Wink

...looking forward to more bike talk

I ride Smiler Actually I am looking forward to going out this weekend and doing my first Metric Century, not quite ready for a normal Century yet. I have put on about 250 miles already this year, and am looking forward to about 1500-2000 by the end of the year.

I'm lined up to go out on an early morning ride tomorrow and we should get between 40 and 50 miles in.

I also signed up for bike to work week (what was I thinking). I'm about 9 miles one way to work without any big hills so it shouldn't be too bad. It'll be interesting to try it out at least.

Well, check off 42 miles in 3 hours including a couple quick breathers in there. I feel surprisingly well and energetic yet though. Good thing since the yard is about to overtake the house unless it gets mowed today!

If you like riding, there's a TON of paths and trails in SW Ontario. I just prefer not to be stuck on the beaten path. Hiking is meant to explore, not to go where everyone's gone before- That's what trail running is for. Big Grin

Pres, Congratulations on the metric century! Averaging 16.3mph wiht a 15-25mph headwind is damn respectable!

I have yet to do a longer ride but i've been fantasizing about doing the local MS150 in the fall.

Well, I bit the bullet and commuted by bike today. Not too bad, it was a shade over 9 miles and about a 14.5 average on my mountain bike with road tires. Of course now I've got to get back home tonight and we have a group ride as well..... I should have close to 50 miles by the time the day is done.

Ya so..... Monday sucked by the time it was over. I did the group ride and we picked up the pace pretty quickly at the end of the ride. I got done with the ride and it was all I could do to get myself home and into bed.

Topless and I rode the tandem on Tuesday night and made it a full 20 miles which is a new best for Topless. I'm really proud of how well she's coming along on riding the tandem. We've got around 80 miles on it total now. We're celebrating with some new skinnier tires! LOL

I rode in to work again today, thinking about doing it tomorrow, and then I'm leading a group ride on Saturday that will stretch pretty close to 50 miles on one ride. Should be a blast since we're ending up at the local farmer's market and meeting up with Topless and our little one.
