Yeast infections are caused by several things. 1 - all obyn's will tell you a lot has to do with diet - the amount of sugar in the body. In the Vagina - women need a balance -- yeast to bacteria. Yeast infections and/or bacteria infections can be caused when that balance is off. To keep it in check, a women should eat yogurt as a regement in her diet on a regular basis.
Yeast infections can also be caused from taking antibotics -- which kills off the bacteria in the vagina and lets the yeast grow rampant. Also, other things that casue yeast infections include the use of lubricants or topical items that contain sugar. Highly suggest she stay away from them. On the flip side - bacteria infections are also caused from a variety of things, such as introductory of a another sex partner, non-clean toys, female menstrale cycle with heavy blood flows. The best advice is that your girlfriend should she her obgyn and give the obgyn a full run down of diet, topical aids and any antibiotics she has been on to deal with the situation. If the obgyn cannot figure it out, get a second opinion and then a third to solve the problem. |

Using soap or highly fragranced body wash can also increase the chances of getting yeast infections. My daughter can't use bubble bath or any other none mild soaps in her bath because even as a kid she gets yeast infections like theres no tomorrow.

It's Topless, Buck and I were just catching up together. I went to the doctor last week before we left for the weekend and I spoke to her about a reoccuring yest infection and that the last time I went in for my "annual" they told me to return in 6 months to check on it.
Anyway, this was a different doctor and she told me that I didn't have a yeast infection, but that it was an overgrowth of bacterial cells. She assured me that it was NOT an STD, but that some women produce more bacteria than others and that it is all a balancing act. She said anything could flair it up, difference in diet, different detergent, some medications and such. She gave me a vaginal insert capsul and it seemed to do the trick. She said the difference was that the overgrowth of bacteria will show signs of a clear liquid discharge instead of a milky, creamy one and their wouldn't be the "odor" and as much itchiness. It still hurt some during the beginnings of intercourse though. Hope you get it figured out, I know how bad it sucks ![]() M |

Topless,
Yes bacteria infections are terrible. I went a year of constantly having one. I found out later and 4 obgyn's that is was related to blood flow of my period. The question to ask yourself, are your menstrual cycles regular - do you have heavier blood flow than you use too? Are your menestrating more frequently than once a month? Also if the infections keep reoccuring get more opinions. As I said it took me 4 obgyn's to figure out what was going on. I even had one of them tell me I didn't have an infection when clearly I knew I did. Anyway as I mentioned in my early post about bacteria vaginosis it can be caused by many things and once you have it you can easily pass it back and forth to your partner. Believe me I changed my diet, changed detergents, blah blah blah and none of it did any good. Only when I finally saw my current obgyn was he able to figure out exactly what was going on. Hope this is helpful as I don't want you to have to go through the time I did. |

Sci, not to get too personal, but what was the suggestion of the doctor that did the trick for you...or did it?

My alternatives were:
1. Go on the pill (not a good idea at 40) 2. Do Nothing (bad idea as well) 3. Get my uterus cauterized. (Basically seals the uterus). -- Less drastic than DNC by far. I had my uterus cauterized to decrease blood flow. It is so much better. My periods are really light now, I don't have the bloating I had before or the water retention. It took about three months to heal completely from the surgery, but life is so much better. |

I live a very casual lifestyle almost entirley in cotton, and I've only ever had 1 or 2 yeast infections. My friends who work in business etc. and always wear professional attire get them much more regulary. I think you're right on the money when it comes to clothing and underwear -- yeast like warm places, so if vaginal temperatures aren't regulated by breathable clothing it creates environment in which they can bloom. Cotton clothing may be less sexy but it can lead to more sex.

"Two sweethearts and the summerwind" |
Here are my questions regarding this topic. I have two people in my life currently that have different issues with this damn bug.
One has had it for the past 3 months but won't get treatment because 'she's not playing with anyone'.. her words. The other says that when she inserts the cream, it burns and itches more. Have any of you gals out there dealt with either one and what are the risks for person one... what might person two have since I doubt its a yeast infection... any ideas?? Thanxs ~Kathy~ |

The good news is that my first friend has gotten treatment.
The only portion of person two's problem that can't be true is that she's sexually active, but not to more than the man she married. So that takes away the chlamydia possibility. Thanks for the information, though ~Kathy~ This message has been edited. Last edited by: Kathy & Jay, |

This is a late reply on this topic. GNC carries a product that my wife takes daily. I think she said it is just called "yeast." If you there and tell them your troubles, they will hook you up as that is how she happened upon it. Good luck.
