I had a couple of bouts with this last fall. Anyone else ever experience this? It really sucks.

Also known as "sexual headaches", coital cephalalgia is a rare type of severe headache that occurs at the base of the skull before orgasm during sexual activity, including masturbation. The pain usually moves from the base of the skull through the head towards the frontal lobes. Extremely severe and sharp pain behind the eyes is also a symptom. The headaches usually have an immediate onset, with some gradually worsening during intercourse and others (referred to as "explosive headaches") occurring almost instantaneously at the moment of orgasm. These headaches typically last for a few minutes to a few hours, although it is possible for such headaches to last up to a few days. It is most common for men to experience these headaches for the first time in their early 20s, or between the ages of 35-44; the reason for this is unclear.

Just kidding. Never heard of it before, but it definitely doesn't sound like anything I want to experience.

I had the type of HA that you discribe during my separation. Nasty! It even got bad enough that I went to the ER on one occasion. I was worked up incuding an MRI. All tests were negative.
When my ex started laying off the HA went away. Must have been stress induced.

That actually sounds like something that happened to my girlfriend a couple of years ago. We didn't know what it was. Being kind of scared I called the doctor and had quite an embarrassing discussion with a nurse. Q: "What was she doing when the headache started?" A: "Well, ma'am, she was riding the skin boat to tuna town." But she didn't know who I was. It eventually passed (lasted about 20 minutes or so, decreasing in severity) but it was (for her/us) a one-time freak thing. I never knew it was a medical condition. Yikes.

same deal....happened once during the divorce period. thought i was having a stoke or something.

This sounds like something my wife gets, except it's before sex.
That's why I keep a huge bottle of Tylenol by the bed.

Bad IDA, now immagine that you show up to your own ER with that head ache, and you have to tell one of your friends that this is going on. Thank god for professionalism.

My episodes scared me pretty well, especially the first time. It was kind of surreal as I am about to reach climax there is a rather quick developing headache that gets worse the closer I get to climax.... I want to feel good, but it hurts like hell. (That would make an interesting country song). Anyway, saw the doctor after doing some research online, had a CAT scan and everything appears normal. Just one of those things. Hasn't happened since then, but I do not try to hold back as much now, which seems to help.

Boy, and I thought being light headed and having the shakes after a good orgasm was bad.

I wonder if it is some type of migraine.

mine was an intense pain starting and the base of my skull and shooting across my head to my frontal lobes....just after orgasm. it lasted maybe 2-3 minutes. i sincerely thought i was having a stroke at the time. but no ill effects, and it's never happened since.....really strange.

Yes, about 1 1/2 - 2 years ago, started getting them with masterbation. By the time I orgasmed, was full blown excrusciating headache. I had history of migraines.I had researched this "sex headache" , since I didn't want to tell the Dr.when it appeared.Not much data on it out there. Sorta put a curb on my sessions.Haven't had them since.Thankfully.So, it's on!

I just had one of these last week!!

I had been sick for about a week, headache, dizziness, fever and body aches. But I was feeling better and usually sex and/or orgasm makes my headaches go away (at the very least during that time). Plus I had started taking a new medication, and I think both the illness and the meds contributed to this.

But I first started my orgasm and the pain was so blindingly harsh I thought I was dying. By the time I was finished I was holding my head and screaming. My poor hubby, he didn't know what to do. It finally became manageble and I started to believe I was going to live. I avoided all things sex til I was completely back to normal.
