What are the advantages? How often do you do it? I have to admit it's not part of my routine, though I often see guys in the gym pumping out one or two heavy reps and wonder if there are some advantages to doing that occasionally.

Also, I'm curious to hear what your favorite protein is. I'm running out and want to try something new. Would like high-volume, good tasting and mass-gaining properties (if possible). Thanks!

Anyone? I'd also pose the same question in regards to creatine. I've used EAS but was wondering if someone has had better results with others.

On a side note, I'm finally starting to see some gains, both on the lifting log and in the mirror. I think the key for me has been to switch up workout regimens every three weeks or so. Supersets, suprasets, one-and-a-halfs, set variations, etc. to keep my body guessing. I'm up from 165 to the 175-180 range (I'm 5'11) with my goal about 190. So it's coming. While I've been adding more protein, I haven't been increasing my food intake as I know I should. But my wife is trying to loose weight, so I don't feel right about loading my plate or getting second helpings in front of her. And I know I need to probably add more supplements as right now all I'm doing is protein (ran out of creatine awhile ago). I experimented with NoS, but found that after the first few weeks it really didn't do anything. In fact, I lifted more the couple of days I went off it.

Anyway, I just thought I'd share. Thanks to everyone here for their advice and words of encouragement.

I'm partial to venison, elk & buffalo...

Worth keeping in mind that nonfermented soy products (i.e, soy protien) can skew thyroid function, as well as cause other problems.

yup - both Blackwing and Broadleaf sell "exotic" meats in some gourmet grocery stores. Elk, venison, caribou and such are probably the best red meats, in regard to their high Omega 3 EFA levels. These exist proportionally to how much they graze at pasture - the more they're fed grain, the lower their Omega 3 EFA levels. Buffalo isn;t quite as high in EFAs, but close, and LOTS better than beef.

Of course, the best you can get is whatever roams around you, whether on your own or by befriending hunters. well, provided they do a good job dressing the animal (who wants to have a poorly dressed quadroped for dinner?)

Incidentally, while "game" meats are usually cited as being healthy because they're "low fat" in comparison to beef, it has more to do with the animal being healthy... factory farmed animals are not - ever. Cholesterol, in and of itself, ~isn't~ bad in the least, and all the BS about its affect of heart health is just that. In fact, some of the degenerative inflammatory conditions, as well as some hormonal hypo- conditions have to do with cholesterol deficiency. It is, after all, an essential building block of numerous hormones, as well as tissues.

well not to mention the inclusion of unhealthy feeds to the factory raised animals. but the over bombardment of antibiotics.

where i was raised in the west. there was ample opportunity and still is to buy free range beef. they feed on the natural grasslands and flora. and the herds are moved often.

like anything it seems best to know where what you put in you. comes from.

cheers
Nigel.

I currently use Gold Standard 100% Whey. It has the highest quality whey (whey isolates) as opposed the the cheap whey concentrates. also, it has AMINOGEN, which helps with the synthesis of of breaking the protiens down. muscle gains are great... and even recovering from injuries is faster. EAS, MetRX, and Muscle Milk are also great products, but I truly feel this brand (ON: Optimun Nutrition) is the best available in stores. otherwise, the rest of my products i get are available through direct-distributors.
