greets! ive had to stop the gym recently because of pain in my right heel. everything points to PF as the cause. and the worst part is trying to walk out of bed in the morning.
anyone suffer from this ? and how did you heal it up? feels like my heel is crushed bruised. walking a couple miles in the morning helps it. but as soon as i stop walking. spend more than 15 min on my can, it stiffens right back up and goes back to pain mode. pointers. etc? please dish! best N. --= I Might be the Stig =-- |

don't strain them and take plenty of ibuprophin.look it up on google,i believe there are braces you can wear to bed to stretch them while sleeping.

My wife suffered from PF -- She went to a podiatrist who prescribed a special sock to stretch the tendon at night (or at lease keep it from tightening up), some special creams to loosen it, and the advice to get good shoes. It took almost a year for her to stop limping each morning.

did a few things. part coincidence part tomfoolery. part really suprising.
a i went into a real shoe store and got sized. this might sound automatic. but if you wear a 14 wide. enh. turns out since i lost weight. i lost footprint. down to a 13. i never noticed really. b im taking a natural anti inflammatory.. zeel heel something like that. c by coincidence, we had a friend who is a feng shui consultant come by. she stated our bed direction was in the worst possible place for health and romance. well well. moved things around. repainted. foot pain is seriously deminished. now. it could be any or al of these things. its still a little uncomfortable. but no pain. and thats a goodly thing --= I Might be the Stig =-- |

Hey Nigel,
I suffered from PF several years ago and it stemmed from not stretching my calves enough prior to and after exercising. I stretch them religiously now, (toes on stair and drop the heels) and have not had any further problems. I also stretch my calves periodically during the day and got some arch support inserts in my shoes. |

i usually try to stretch everything out before getting out of bed in the morning. it does help.

I hope your pain does not return either...
I have suffered with PF in the past as well. Had a terrible flare up about 3 years ago...severe pain in my heels even with walking normally. Tried the stretching but I think in my case it was too far gone. I am overweight and my arches are really high, so underneath my body weight it put too much pressure on the front of my heels. Before I knew it I had a terrible problem. My solution, and ultimately my cure. I saw a podiatrist who fit me for custom orthodic inserts into my shoes that actually hold up my high arches with hard support. Felt like I was walking on rocks for a month but learned to love them. Now would prefer that support in all my shoes. Once upon a time when the pain was subsiding I could only wear shoes that the orthodics would fit in. Now I'm happy to say that the problem has virtually went away. My practice is to wear my orthodics in my tennis shoes always, and always during exercise. But I can now enjoy flip flops and sandals again...couldn't wear those a few years ago. That's my two cents. |

Hey Nigel, had the same problem a few years back. Tried many things, begged the doc for a cortisone shot and he obliged. In turn, he begged me to get some birkenstocks inserts for my shoes. They are about $40 for a pair. Totally solved the problem and I was in really tough shape.

Hey Nigel,
I've been recently diagnosed with Plantar fasciitus. I was having back pain, knee pain and hip pain. My doctor just happened to ask me to walk without shoes on when I was wearing unique shoes with absolutely no real support towards the curves of my foot. She saw when I walked that I had extremely flat feet (plantar fasciitus). She gave me a prescription for orthodics.. they feel real weird and feels like my shoe is going to come off because it pushes me foot so high up out of the shoe. So... hopefully you will get some answers for your issue. Kathy |

its actually quite good. i got some insoles, got some new shoes, got some herbal antiinfammatories from my wife, and after a couple weeks it hasnt reappeared.
and im hoping it doesnt. were repainting the house. and that involves ladder time. lots of it. lol cheers all and thanks again. N. --= I Might be the Stig =-- |

An observation that parallels yours... I've had pf off and on for about 10 years. It's rarely a problem anymore. I've lost weight, support my high arches (Footsmart, off-the-shelf shoe inserts) and stretch (nice opportunity for isometric exercise there - for shoulders and chest.) But ladder work of more than a few hours, esp. if repeated, will still set it off, reliably. When it does, I try to stretch and relax. In a day or less, things are back to normal.
