Finally!

As my wonderful husband won't be home for Christmas, I asked him before he left if I could go to the gym and get a trainer in place of a present for me. Of course, he said yes! After all, who wouldn't want an even hotter wife to come home to? Wink

So, today, I finally went to the gym and booked a trainer. I talked with her for a while, and I think it will be a good fit. I love having someone hold me accountable, so I'm really excited to be working with her.

Then, I asked her how much for how many sessions. She said "nothing". My eyes nearly popped out of my head, as there was a price listed online, and I asked her about it. She said that was only when there weren't any Air Force staff trainers there, and she said there were three of them, herself included. So, I'm even more excited, because my new hotness won't cost me more than the gas to get there! Yea me! Big Grin

I can only hope I have as good results as the whole mjbarbag family does. My goals are to lose inches, and the pounds will come with it. I go on Monday for my official measurements and then it begins.

My first day was yesterday. She put me through a series of exercises using light weights (5-7 pounds) and various other things, like exercise balls, a mat, and exercise bands. Needless to say, I was hurting when I woke up. But, today was my cardio day, so I popped some Tylenol with breakfast, and off I went.

Today, she wasn't in, but had instructions for me at the front desk for me to set a goal of 300 calories on any cardio machine of my choosing. (I know the calorie counts are guesstimates, based on my weight and height, but they're better than nothing!) So, I did an elliptical machine for 40 minutes or so, met my goal, and I have to say, I feel pretty good so far! Yea! Smiler

People wonder why I never need a coffee in the morning to get going, and why I never seem to run out of energy.

I'm doing pretty well myself! I don't think I've lost any weight, but there's noticibly less "jiggling" everywhere, and I feel like I'm toning up. I think I found my abs the other day, too, which was nice as I used to have really nice ones in college.

I also feel more alert and healthier all around. Yea!

I don't know if it's just my impression but I feel having spent the last couple of months going to gym and working out with quite heavy weights that bits of me are most definitely more firm but that I feel like I walk more upright? Does that sound silly? Maybe it's more strength in the lower back? I dunno but I like it. Smiler

Congrats Nigel too - that's a big loss, wish I could do it.

Rain, you'd be surprised how weak most peoples core muscles are. This definitely leads to a lot of slumping and slouching so working out with weights would definitely help your posture. I noticed the same thing too, especially when working my abs and lower back.

Yeah, core is integral to posture, balance back health, etc.

Work on the ball is the easiest way of building up the core. A good measure of core balance is kneeling unaided on the ball, and being able to move back and forth, using only your body weight and core as stabilizers. I've managed to work myself up to the point where I've moved passed kneeling, and can actually stand unaided on a fully inflated ball on a hard floor.

The other measure of core strength is the plank- if you can hold it properly for 30 seconds without shaking, your core strength is strong.

Unfortunately, due to my oft-injured back, my progress with the plank is much, much worse than my progress on the ball.

My update:
I haven't lost weight, but I'm pretty certain I've gained muscle and lost fat. My whole body feels more toned, and I definitely hope to be in bikini shape (B says I already am, but one can never be too careful) by the end of June. Yea!
