I'm wondering of the women on this board, who gets PMS, how bad, and what do/take you do to relieve it?

I never believed in PMS until recently. Now I realize that I do PMS and I change from nice, sweet Jem to a complete nasty bitch. Everything either makes me fly off the handle or cry.
I never realized it until M started keeping track of my cycles and my emotions and noticed a pattern of my being pretty emotional in a not so nice way starting about two weeks prior. As soon as the flow would start I would revert back to me!! At least he is understanding and loving about it. I sure wouldn't put up with me sometimes! |

I get moody the week before I start. More so I have less patience for my children. Nothing too serious, I don't think. Don't experience any other pms symptons and Idon't take anything for it.

Very emotional for 1-2 days beforehand - very minor things make me cry. Tend to be pathetic rather than bitchy. I don't take anything for it.

Lately, I've been kinda emotional--teary even--about 2 days before I start. Not too bad. Other than that, I'm insatialbly horny the day before, I've been known to masturbate 3 times in a day right before I start (normally, if I need to, it's like once a week)--everything's a turnon.
As far as cramping etc. goes, I have, like, sharp ones when I'm ovulating, and like a dull achy feelling for the first 2 days of my period. Nothing that Advil won't take care of. Oh, and I can get really fatigued...I will often get up and make coffee in the morning, pour myself a cup, and then go back to bed for a hour. I've been pretty fortunate with my cycle. TMI WARNING: my period only lasts 3-4 days and is on a pretty regular 30 day cycle. When I was younger, I would get my period every 5 weeks and 2 days like clockwork. When I started having sex at 21, I fell down to my 30 day bit. Everything's been pretty smooth and easy for me. I'm worried that things will change if I ever go on the pill or get pregnant. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Blessed are the geeks, for we shall inherit the earth... |

I used to have the perfect cycle, since having our little one this has gone, esp. since I got my hormonal coil. I can now bleed for up to 3 weeks! I can also have a period every three weeks. Although that doesn't happen that often, it is very annoying!!!
PMT, omg, just ask J! I have mood swings, feel generally grumpy and teary for about 3>4 days proir to period and I go off sex abit I used to have extremely painful cramps, but they not as bad as they were prior to the pregnancy ~ Hooray!!! I hear that Magnesium supplements help alot. I am not sure if I can take them, but I am going to try to get them and give them a go! G |

I get PMS in a big way. I get really moody and gets loads of spots the week before. I also get really bad cramps the first couple of days. My cycle also seems to be relatively regular and lasts an average of 4 days.
For those of you who also suffer the above symptoms I may have an answer!!! Just after my last period I started taking Evening Primose oil capsules (1000mg). For the first 2 weeks I took 2 capsules a day to build up the levels in my system and now I'm just taking one (don't worry this is totally safe!). Anyway I am actually going somewhere with this...I'm due my period next week and have only been moody one day this week (compared to every day normally) and only got 2 spots (compared to my usual gizillions!) I don't know if it's gonna do anything for my cramps but it's reputed to so I'll let ye know next week. Even if it doesn't the cramps are relatively easily cured with advil or panadol or something. My periods are usually pretty heavy too so hopefully they'll calm down a bit. Anyway I'll keep ye posted |

Thanks Nicci. I am really glad to hear of a natural solution. I am going to read up on and try the primrose oil. Hopefully this will smooth out my emotional swings.

No prob Jem. A google search on evening primrose oil and/or pms will give you lots of info.
They also reccomend drinking dandalion tea but I don't think I'll be going down that route anytime soon! Hope it works for you! |

Evening Primrose oil is wonderful stuff - just be aware that it makes your skin photo-sensitive - i.e. careful with the sunbathing! It is also not advised if you are on certain meds. as if can affect their efficiency - check with your medic or alternative practitioner to be sure.
Nicci dandelion tea is wonderful stuff - again it can cause problems with others meds. so check. In all things be true to yourself |

I get mean, moody and anti social.
And when my husband asks me if my period is due I lose it completely. Dear sweet man never says a word when he spots the box of tampons in the bathroom the day after a tantrum. |

That question also will usually set off my already-edgy-self at that time. |

Thanks - Growing up and living in South Florida I usually try to avoid the sun these days to prevent any more sun-damage - but sometimes just can't avoid it. I will check up on that. |

So remember how I said I'd keep ye posted on my experiences with cramps etc while taking the Evening Primrose oil...well after either a miscalculation on my part or somethin a little out of whack down there (i was sick this week so that is probably something to do with it) I finally got my period on Friday. Now as I said I normally get pretty bad cramps the first few days but this time I didn't get bad cramps just teeny ones that I didn't have to take anything for. Having said that my tummy was is pretty bad shape after being sick all day thursday and still is so that might have had something to do with it and it's just as well I didn't have to take anything because it's not a good idea on an empty stomach. Anyway I still haven't gone back to eating properly but my flow is pretty normal so it can't have been too affected.
Anyway I'm no longer making any sense sorry about that! The general gist is that the Primrose oil appears to be doing it's job but I'll let you guys know for definite next month! |
