I went out and got some dumbells. So I have been doing a quick 15 minute work out every day. I hope that songchick will be able to tell the difference with me being a bit more tone.
I'm not telling her. I want to see how long it is before she notices.
So I'm on day 4.

Well I just set up an excersize bike down next to the dumbells, I plan on taking the PS2 down there and using the exercise bike while playing video games.

So I have been doing my 15 min workout for about 2 weeks now and for the first time Songchick noticed when I was taking of my shirt. its not a lot but just the slightest bit of tone and definition is starting to crop up.
Once I get my knee fixed up I hope to get out on the trails again and make that part of my new exercise regimen.

15 minute work out is working. Feeling better. The work out seems to be getting easier and I'm getting a bit of definition. It has even motivated Songchick to start working out again.

Great news, Heroic. Wonderful that Songchick is joining in. You'll be able to inspire one another. Much greater chance of having it become a solid lifestyle change that way.
Tell Songchick she's missed here! Hope she's doing well, and you have more good news soon! (Read your other thread).
Swimming 5 days a week at the local community college and I bought one of those exercise balls to work on my abs. Haven't had enough time with either to show any real results but my cardio is definitely improving.

Swimming has to be one of the best exercises and it is a lot of fun. Swimming that often I bet you see results pretty quickly. Of course eating right is also a big factor.
I just bought a recumbent exercise bike and hope to do five miles a day. So far so good for the past three days.
It would also be interesting to hear what type of exercise equipment people have success with and which pieces of equipment are a joke.
Swimming is a great all around exercise, but I thought that I'd share just what a great workout walking in a pool is too. Our local YMCA pool is 4 ft deep from one end to the other. It gets lots of use from lap swimmers but also from people walking or jogging in the pool. Much easier on the joints while you are doing the walking/jogging and 1 mile in the pool is equivalent to 3 miles on land. That info came from the Y director and I presume she knows what she's talking about .
I started doing the water class at our YMCA (cardio/strength and resistance training) at the end of May and have lost 2 inches in my thighs and 5 from my hips in that time. I highly recommend water exercise to everyone!

1 Month of swimming down and I'm really seeing a massive difference in my cardio. My first couple days I was barely managing 300-400 yards in 35-40 minutes, with resting required nearly every 25-50 yards.
Monday and Tuesday I did a mile workout in about 50-55 minutes, today I managed back to back 500's with 20 yard sprints every 3-4 laps and no more than a 1-2 second rest on occasional laps. And then kept going with the rest of the workout until I ran out of time. So i'm pretty damn pleased with how that's all going.
I wish I had a gym membership or something such that I could get a decent leg workout as well because I'm finding that my legs are totally useless in the water, and I'm forced to go all upper body. Which is shocking to me given that I used to be a distance runner a number of years back.

Hi! How many laps (and in what length pool) is 1 mile in swimming? I want to start training for a sprint triathalon, but I'm not a strong swimmer...
I suppose I can just look it up, but I was a distance runner too so I'm wondering how long it took you get get going any sort of distance swimming? Just the month, or do you some past experience swimming?
Thanks!

I've swum before, but never with any real focus. Our pool is 25 yards, so a mile is about 35 full laps. I put in a 2000 yard workout today over about an hour, there were quite a few laps of just kicking which I'm exceedingly poor at so it took longer than if I just did it freestyle.
