So as a couple of you know, I'm now engaged, and planning a wedding for next year, and my fiance has a tattoo on her upper arm that she doesn't particularly want showing while wearing her wedding dress, so we decided we'd look for silver arm jewelry that would cover that up during the ceremony, and might be nice to wear at other times as well. I've cruised through ebay and a few of the more prominent google hits, but I know this is more of a niche market that I know nothing about. So any direction that more knowledgeable people can give me would be much appreciated.
We're looking to cover an area of about 3" vertical and 2" horizontal, we're both fans of heavier more industrial jewelry, no little princess tiara's sprouting rhinestones and fake diamonds. A somewhat distorted heart would be just about perfect, if you've seen something like that, let me know please! Smiler
Have a good 'un.

Congratulations! Smiler I don't have any armbands, but I think they are very sexy. I think they would give a person a very "Roman goddess" look. I'll keep my eye out for you!

hey hun newbridge silver make some gorgeous bangles (cuff like bracelets) all their stuff is really chunky so you may find one to suit. dunno if they sell it over there but if not I'd be happy to help out. oh and its pretty inexpensive most of the bangles cost bout 40 euro. here's a link to a site with their product range http://www.newbridgesilverware.com/productlist.asp?supertype=79&type=55&page=1

Alternatively just google newbridge silverware. Oh did I mention they're all irish made? that's what makes them so great Big Grin

Forgot to mention that obviously because they're bangles she should be able to fit them on her upper arm especially since I think I remember you telling me that's she's pretty teeny.

Good luck with the search!

i know some people are fascinated by silver. and its one of the most easily worked metals. really to make a nice armband. you need a sheet of sterling silver, and a auto body hammer. (cheap at harbor freight) and a smooth something durable enough to use as an anvil.

when you hammer silver. its not hard and doesnt really need flame. its very soft. so tap tap tap tap is the rule. just planishing and forming the silver to something round roughly the same size as the arm its meant to go around.

as the silver sheet curls around. you can use tin snips to fine tune your cuts.

once you get your shape. smooth off the edges with a fine file then while working progressivly finer sheets of sand paper, you get to a point where you can polish it. i prefer simichrome for hand polishing.
no sharp corners. no sharp edges. and a fine satin shine. looks nice.

anyhow. i could have gone into huge descriptions. but with silver its just about that easy. just dont HAMMER on it. tap tap is the rule.

think of it like the clitoris of precious metals. you dont dive on it and beat it into submission. easy going makes for the best reults.

cheers!
Nigel.

(a note i forgot. and this is very important. if you want a smooth finish. make sure what you use as an anvil is smooth as well as the face of the hammer. any patterns in either will immed transfer to the metal)

Thanks for the replies folks, I don't think making it ourselves will turn out to be practical due to time issues, but great information on how we would go about it. Also thanks to nicci for that site, it has some cool stuff, the only question is if any of it is large enough, again thanks.
