Hi all;
My girl tends to get these quite easily. just a bit of info: We only have intercourse when she's wet enough (she's wet, or extra lube). We don't use condoms (we're monogamous and I have had a vasectomy). Hmmm... what else.... oh yeah, she gets them easily if I play with her bum, and yes I make sure I am extra careful not to go anywhere near her vagina if I've been playing with her ass (we both know all about bacteria, ec.). She also gets urinary tract infections EVERY time she's anally penetrated (once again, it seems to happen even if nothing touches her vagina!). So what's the deal here? Does anyone have any ideas or anything anyone here can suggest? |

well i would suggest that shes getting uti's regardless? another possibility is, if you use the same bottle of lube for anal and vaginal use? are you sterilizing your toys?
there really are a lot of reasons why people get them. but if you suspect the anal sex, then you best look at your habits to see if you arent cross contaminating one way or another.. not really much info to go on! cheers tho and good luck N. --= I Might be the Stig =-- |

I agree with Nigel. Somehow, something is getting from point A to point B. Maybe just the "in and out" when engaging in anal is spreading lube and other stuff around? Stranger things have happened. My advice, besides what Nigel has said so far, is to have her drink more cranberry juice (the 100% kind, not the cocktail), especially when you think you're going to do anal. The acid helps prevent UTI's, and is natural. *~When I'm good, I'm very good. But when I'm bad I'm better. -Mae West~* |

Hi! I'm prone to UTI's that are so severe, they usually result in a trip to the emergency room with my kidney's infected if I don't take medication immediately upon having symptoms.
One thing I've tried that a midwife told me is to mix lemon juice with water and drink that (no sugar added). That's easier for me to drink than the nasty tasting 100% cranberry juice. I also drink it occasionally as a preventative measure and haven't had a UTI for over a year (knock on wood). We also have to be extremely careful that anything that even remotely touches the anus does not touch the vagina. There was also a time when we had to limit sex to every other day or I'd get a UTI. Thankfully we haven't had to do that since I started drinking the lemon juice. ~*~New love is the brightest, and long love is the greatest, but revived love is the tenderest thing known on earth. - Thomas Hardy~*~ |

My doctor once told me that almost any kind of sex can result in a UTI, even if lot's of lube is used. He recommended going to the bathroom before and after sex, giving a gentle wash with a PH balanced soap (After sterilizing your hands, of course) and sleeping without underwear. He also said if they continue, I should change my sheets immediately after sex.

Conscious higiene without need of becoming paranoid is really important. Common sense is the best doctor.
I used to suffer from sever uti at least three-four times a year until someyears ago. It was very bad, and for a period it really inhibited me a lot, sexually. I was just plain scared (out of experience) that if I played a bit more than usual, I would have to go through hell for two days after that. Cranberry-lingonberry juice fixed me. My experience is that for a preventive measure thesugared version works for me. Actually a buy it mostly in "syrup" form and drink some every day. It is a very enjoyable drink and cheaper than buying juice all the time (I also have juice when I can get it). IKEA is for me the best source of lingonberry syrup, surprisingly. The posh stuff the sell in farmacy and such is just to bloody expensive to be of real use. Since I started drinking this stuff (really the IKEA stuff) every day, I never had uti again. Never (touch iron... as we say in Italy) When you are already having a uti the sugared version will not do,and you need the pure stuff. Lemon juice will also do, as S&SM suggested. |

My wife is also prone to UTI's. Cranberry juice is a great cure. If you don't like the taste get some Cranberry Juice extract pills. All the punch of a glass of Cranberry juice with no taste.

The first time I got a UTI- it was fullblown, went into my uteters.. but thankfully not my kidneys. The first question I was asked was, if I was sexually active, do I pee after sex. I looked at the doctor stunned. Ever since, this is the first question they ask- my advice is to do this.. and cranberry juice also seems to work for me and my female family members.

prefer to attract with honey over vinegar--to love the 'unlovely' |
Snowflake: thanks for the IKEA advice. I've known about cranberry juice for years and had a hunch about lingoberry--now I know for sure from a REAL European. My young-adult daughter uses Alka-Selzter and swears by it--she says something about PH balance. I noticed it relieves the 'pain' temporarily but doesn't cure it. I'm starting to also think that a particular "Aquasaki" that I love is causing a problem, despite my STERILIZING it. It has strong chemical-like odor..the silicone? With the recent MELAMINE alert(s), I would SO appreciate any recommendations for something for SIMILAR (I like the partial-penetration).

WOW--sorry folks, I just joined today. I may very well be using the wrong lube for my body, according to Eddy's lube video advice. I'm in my mid-40's and drying out. My hubby came home and I made him sniff my CLEAN AQUASAKI. He couldn't believe how strong the plastic-chemical smell was. He also apologized for it being 'the only play' I could get for now.

For a long time I had to avoid intense G-spot stimulation because I would wake up with the beginnings of a UTI the next morning. I started taking two cranberry extract pills every morning, whether I had sex or not; and on days where I had sex the day before, I take four. I haven't had a problem in months and we do G-spot stimulation all the time now.

well, recurrent UTIs really need to be addressed holistically. They probably have less to do with bacteria than they do with the terrain of the urinary tract; if, for example, the urinary tract is chronically alkaline instead of acidic, then recurrent UTIs are inevitable, because the state of the tissues is predisposed to recurrent infections. Cranberry, lingon berry, blue berry, sumach berry... any juice that acidifies the urine will help. Also, most of these are to some degree astringent, and this may be helpful in addressing laxity of the tissues, which can also be a predisposing factor.
A liquid extract of echincea root and uva ursi leaves, taken 3-4 times a day in cranberry juice for about 4 days will very often clear up an infection. |
