Hi,

I'm new here. I've been reading the forums for a while and I've decided to come to this group with a problem I'm having.

I just recently starting shaving my groin and pubic area. The problem I'm having is razor burn. I'm not sure whats causing the razor burn

Heres what I'm doing:

Washing and exfoliation before shaving
Sharp razor
Cold sterilization (Before, during and after use with 91% alcohol)
plenty of lubrication with a quality shave cream
after treatment with "Bump Patrol"

I still have no idea what is causing the razor bumps. The only think I can think of is that my skin is getting acclimated to being shaven?

Any help, insight, or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I have been shaving my groin area for several years and have never had any problems. I wash without soap first, leaving the area wet. I use Edge shaving crean and a womans razor. I brush on the shaving crean, and then I shave, first with the hair grain, and next against the hair grain. I use hand soap and warm water and wash the shaved area. I dry the area and rub in using baby oil. I have never had any problems doing it this way.

Mix, the first thing I can see is the use of the alcohol before shaving. This dries out the skin and does nothing for cleaning of the area. My regimen (before I started waxing) was to shave in the shower. Use a mild soap without purfuemes etc (dove or Ivory). Next shave as you are doing with a ladies rasor and fresh blades. I then use an antibactirial soap and then a moisturizing jel. The final stage for me was to use a razor relief cream or body lotion.

Good luck and let us know how things are progressing.

One last point, If you shave every day, the skin does not have time to recover. Most people here advocate for every three days.

Oops, I forgot to mention one fantastic product that may help. It is called Dragon Mist. Check out their web site here: http://www.magicdragonmist.com/product1.html

It worked fantastic when I was healing my piercings and then discovered that it alliviated the razor rash as well.

It's funny that I hear you guys saying that women's razors are better. My wife has always said that men's razors are better. I've never tried a women's, so I can't comment personally.

I use a Gillette Mach 3 Turbo. It vibrates, and this makes it nearly impossible to cut myself. I think that it makes the shave more comfortable also.

When I shave my genitals, I wash with soap first, then rinse it all off and shave wet. I used to use shaving creams and gels, but I figured out that they give me no added comfort, and my shave is not as close with them.

It helps me out tremendously if I am at least semi-erect. And, my scrotum MUST be in it's tightened position. If my sack is all loose and floppy, I can't get any kind of decent shave on it, and run the risk of getting cut.

You got lots of good advice and they all work, as over the years I have tried them all. Ultimately, you will have to practice with it and use the one that works best for you.

Already some good advice but I thought I'd toss my hand in with 2 products I really like.

Wet Intimmo Kitty shave Kreme and Monistat Soothing Care Skin Protection Powder Gel

The first has eliminated 99% of bumps and the second I use as a sort of aftershave which helps with bumps and irritation - especially right on my bikini line and where my thighs rub together.
