I haven't gone downrange yet, but it's kind of inevitable. I don't want to compromise anyone's opsec by asking for your specific details, nor will I divulge mine, but I have a simple question.
Can you have a degree of privacy on your laptop or not? The guys were talking today about getting busted for having porn of any kind, even pictures their wives sent them. They also agreed that pretty much always when someone gets busted because they were being stupid. It's not like enlisted leadership wants to spend time on inspections to be the porn police. I said, if you use Hajinet, store anything you want to keep on external, encrypted, PW protected media, it isn't Uncle Sam's problem, is it? It's not a huge deal, I mostly want to know if I'm in a hooch with some alone time, I can have some hot chat with Jill without watching it replayed in the SMAJ's office. Any pertinent stories? It's not a question of hiding it... It was a "directive" against having it when I was deployed to a similar location. I know there are a lot of military that don't feel it is 'necessary' to follow each and every regulation, but if you are protecting your country, you better damn well be following them to the letter of the law to get my respect... |

Different nationality but same issues regarding porn while over seas. OEF 06. I used an encripted thumb drive and it worked well. as for the chat time, that is a tough one because you are using a military connection. Not the best bet for security esp if you are wanting to stay below the radar if you catch my meaning.

But if you are using hajinet, you aren't using the military's connection.
And Randy,I'm not going to challenge you directly, but no one follows every AR, FM, policy letter, and directive. Commander's discretion allows for keeping everyone sane while still accomplishing the mission and getting everyone home alive. Like I said before, the stories I heard about guys getting busted were cases where they failed to keep it off military channels and keep it private. Randy, you are very new on the boards and I am going to ask you to be a little more considerate in the way you respond to posts. Many of us have family in the military and I for one find your statement insulting to those men and women who are serving their countries today. In all things be true to yourself |

First, welcome Randy. Regarding this topic, take it as it is, just a topic. Our whole reason to have these boards is for "communication" and to "discuss". We all have opinions on all aspects whether it be sexual or other. Since neither I, nor my partner is in the military, we are sitting on the outside looking in. You will find that the F&E family use this forum to vent, question and just bring subjects that affect a lot of us. We don't take anything personal, but be aware that anything written in cyber space can be contrued in many different ways. So, take all the information you want and we always appreciate your 2 cents on all topics. We hope to see you comment more often.
