We went to Buffalo for a cousin's wedding back in May 2005 and made sure we went to see the falls on the US side. The weather was beautiful! In Buffalo, we stayed in one of the recommended hotels (a Hampton Inn, I think) and it was very nice. Not a B&B, and nearly 30-45 minutes from the falls, but nice.

It also depends on whether you want to go to the US side or the Canada side. Here's a TripAdvisor link (my favorite travel site!) that may be helpful.

thanks phoenix
we were thinking of staying on the canadian side. i was there many years ago with my family and we stayed in canada, seemed much cleaner (and the dollar was worth much more then).

i was thinking a bed & breakfast would be nice, but so would a pool and hot tub, i dont think i will find that at a B&B.

when we go to niagara..

we stay at the harbor house. in niagara on the lake. great place. deluxe accomidations, more of a bed and breakfast feel. they have bicycles for the visitors to use. wine and cheese tastings. and breakfast.

nice joint. and last we stayed there. dog friendly.

cheers

We stay at the Courtyard Marriott. It's nice and didn't kill the bank. Kick in the extra for the hot tub room.

And for evening fun, go to The Sundowner.

(EDIT to change hotel...)

thanks guys

after looking at them, the harbor house was a little further away than we were looking for and the marriott was booked. after talking to a few travel agencys, the one hotel most mentioned was michaels inn on the river, so we reserved a room there. looks nice on the internet so we will see how it is.

we just got back from niagara falls, had a wonderful time. micheals inn was nice, we loved the location. its next to the rainbow bridge. we got a falls view room with a king bed, beware when they tell you its a falls view room though, i had to lean out over the balcony to see part of the american falls.

no problem. glad i could give you some insight. yeah harbor house is actually in Niagara on the Lake. which is a bit more quiet than Niagara falls proper. but has a great theatre scene. and some good restaurants and wineries. reminds me somewhat of napa valley towns like st helena.

glad you had a great time regardless!

cheers
Nige.
