My wife and I are on a diet and workout regime. It's our first week. It's going to take 2 months at least to get this done at a healthy reduction. We could each use to depart with a fair amount of weight and get back to the good old days since we married 8 years ago (kids and all).
In all that time we have never been on a nice vacation together. I'd like to plan something for us if we can reach our goal or close to it. Sort of an incentive for the two of us.
I've been to Jamaica and Cancun, neither of which I cared for much.
What im looking for is a nice quiet romantic hideaway in the Caribbean that we can spend some quality time together (with toys).
It needs to be away from the madness of town, but not too far, I'd like a bungalow room rather than a big hotel. Something middle class, not over the top, perhaps October, before it gets really busy.
And so I call on ye all with your worldly experience to come forward with your ideas.
Your help is appreciated, links would be nice too.
I personally get a lot of ideas from www.tripadvisor.com/ as they are pretty comprehensive. The reviews are great as well, because you get the good, bad, and ugly. You can search locations and look at the properties that interest you. Hope this helps!

Glad it worked well for you! We're big fans of Sandals (we stayed at the one in Ocho Rios Jamaica in 2005) and are planning our very-belated honeymoon at the one in Whitehouse, Jamaica in early 09. I've heard good things about Couples too! We love the all-inclusive format, but remember that any time you go off of the resort you'll be expected to tip (airport, off resort excursions, tours, etc) so bring a lot of $5's and $1's. The locals are not shy about asking or sticking their hands out, so just be aware of this

We went to The Royal Hideaway near Playa Del Carmen. You fly into Cancun and it's about a 45 minute to an hour drive from there. All inclusive, multiple restaurants, nice pool areas, beach isn't the greatest I've been to, but okay. Day trips to the Mayan ruins, spa treatments, no children. It's not as wild as some of the Jamaican places I've been to, but very relaxing.

We've heard good things about Negril, T-Rex! Thanks for the info! We really like the "out in the middle of nowhere" aspect of Whitehouse though. It looks like that's where we'll be going unless our travel agent has somewhere even more awesome in her bag of tricks
